Take six of the best comics in the state, throw in a cash bar and club lighting, and suddenly Middlebury's Town Hall Theater becomes the best little Comedy Club north of the Big Apple. Aptly titled 6 VT COMICS, the show hits the stage on Friday, March 4, at 8 pm.

"We did this for the first time last year," says THT executive director Douglas Anderson, "and it was a huge hit. The growing stand-up circuit in Vermont is producing a lot of very funny people who really know how to entertain an audience."

The 6 VT COMICS are making a name for themselves at places like the Comedy Battle at Higher Ground and the Stand Up, Sit Down and Laugh series at Burlington's FlynnSpace. The THT bill includes Tony Bates, emcee, who has performed stand-up all over the state. He's been married to a Hair Stylist for 24 years, which, he says, has given him enough material for the next 75 years.

Colin Ryan has performed at the Monkey House, Higher Ground, and FlynnSpace, as well as in New York City and Cabo, Mexico. Carmen Lagala, a newcomer to comedy, was a finalist in the 2011 Higher Ground Comedy Battle. Umberto Garofano was born and raised in Montreal - an engineer whose true passion is stand-up comedy. Also on the bill are Denise McCarty and Brian Clifford.

A cash bar and snacks will be available. "The idea is to transform out theater into an intimate club," says Anderson.

6 VT COMICS will perform at Middlebury's Town Hall Theater on Friday, March 4, at 8 pm. Tickets are $10, and may be purchased at www.townhalltheater.org, 802 382-9222, at the THT Box Office (Mon-Sun, noon-5 pm) and at the door. Mature Themes.
