James Martin Considers The Future At Town Hall Theater May 16
People in a revolution can't see the overall picture of what's happening. Author James Martin believes we're in the middle of the biggest revolution ever - an era in which major forces like globalism and new technologies are changing society with astonishing speed.
Martin has a made a career of thinking about new technologies and their affect on the future. He will talk about his new book, The Meaning of the 21st Century, at Middlebury's Town Hall Theater on Monday, May 16. The event is free.
Martin has written more textbooks than any other living person - 104, many of which have become standards in their field. He founded the Oxford Martin School at the University of Oxford, which has 30 institutes doing scholarly research into the problems, dangers, and opportunities of the near future.
He believes the future will be a roller coaster. The rate of change will become incredibly fast because of ultrapowerful computing, genetic change, nanotechnology, and quantum technology. He's devoted his life to thinking about how the human race will embrace such radical change.
James Martin will lecture at Town Hall Theater on Monday, May 16, at 4:30 pm. The free event is sponsored by the Harvard-Radcliffe Club. A reception will follow. For more information call 802 388-1436.
