The Only Animal Presents WYSPA at Vancouver Fringe

The Only Animal presents: Wyspa - a collaboratively created theatrical world by Kanon Hewitt and Julia Siedlanowska, along with youth collaborators ages 11-16. In a community that has sustained itself through oil extraction for generations, mothers are forced to exile their children when fires rage uncontrollably. When the youth make it to an un-peopled island, they must establish their own rules and decide how to live.
Featuring Anthony Goncharov (Concord Floral, PuSh International Performing Arts Festival) and Atticus Cseh (Romeo and Juliet, Carousel Theatre.)
The Only Animal creates cultivates and inspires theatre work that arises from a deep engagement with place, holding 30 JESSIE RICHARDSON NOMINATIONS & 8 AWARDS.
Through Generation Hot: Waterborne, a five-month mentorship program, The Only Animal and Vancouver Fringe Festival are supporting and presenting the work of seven writer-directors ages 17-24. Each participant has found a personal response to a chosen site on Granville Island and the theme of Water. Two programs of these short works will run in rep during the 2017 Vancouver Fringe Festival from September 7-16, 2017. Wyspa is paired with Citlali: a fantastic tale about water by a Mexican poet by Brenda Muñoz.
Artistic Team: Written by Kanon Hewitt & Julia Siedlanowska with youth collaborators Lily-Muna Henshaw, Anthony Goncharov, Daniel Russell, Isabelle Russel, Atticus Cseh. Directed by Julia Siedlanowska. Performed by the youth collaborators. Sound & Projection Design by Kanon Hewitt. Dramaturgy by mia amir. Stage Management by Holly Karpiuk.
