Festival Place Presents Great Lake Swimmers, Crash Test Dummies, and Wishbone Ash

By:

As part of their 24th season, Festival Place presents three pop and rock bands this September: indie-rockers Great Lake Swimmers (September 15); Canadian music icons Crash Test Dummies (September 28) and British rockers, Wishbone Ash (September 30).

2018 marks the 15th anniversary of Great Lake Swimmers (September 15) and a release of a new album, The Waves, The Wake, which will be released on August 17. The JUNO nominated, Polaris Prize shortlisted Toronto group, fronted by lead singer-songwriter Tony Dekkerare, has established itself as a beloved indie folk act in their native Canada and beyond. They have shared the stage with musical luminaries such as Robert Plant, Feist, and Calexico, and have appeared as headliners for many of Canada's major Folk Festivals.

Canadian rock band Crash Test Dummies are back on tour, bringing their much acclaimed sound to Festival Place, September 28. There is no mistaking the unique bass-baritone voice of lead singer Brad Roberts. The band received international acclaim with their sophomore record, 'God Shuffled His Feet', released in 1993. Their single 'MMM MMM MMM MMM' went to the top of the billboard charts in America and then in Europe. Over the years the band has touched on funk and soul, folk, electronic music and even Christmas tunes, and now fans will be able to enjoy Roberts' voice and offbeat lyrical sensibility as they perform live.

Wishbone Ash (September 30) embarked on the progressive rock scene in 1969, producing a distinctive brand of melodic rock. Having pioneered the use of twin lead guitars, the group has gained worldwide recognition based firmly on a regime of relentless touring. Their latest studio release, Blue Horizon, continues to solidify their reputation as a musical force to be reckoned with. With 24 studio releases, 11 live albums and five live DVDs to date, Wishbone Ash continues to prove they are not a band to rest on their laurels. As they celebrate their 48th anniversary, the guys will present time-honoured classics and deep tracks from the back catalog, as well as material from recent recordings.

Festival Place continues to be Alberta's #1 Presenter of Professional Artists. The 2017/2018 season showcased an eclectic mix of over 80 incredibly talented performers. The upcoming 2018/2019 season carries on the same ambitious standard of entertainment, with over 50 performances already scheduled between September 2018 and April 2019, with new shows added throughout the year.
