Tik-sho-ret Theatre to Bring 5 KILO SUGAR to London, Edinburgh This Summer
What would you do if your late grandfather started appearing to you through people you know or randomly meet?
Following successful runs at Brighton Fringe 2014, London's Tristan Bates Theatre and the London Jewish Cultural Centre (LJCC), Tik-sho-ret Theatre Company presents its Edinburgh Fringe Festival debut production with 5 Kilo Sugar - the only Israeli play at this year's Festival.
5 Kilo Sugar is a fast-paced comedy play following the story of Gur Koren, whose late grandfather appears to him through people he knows and randomly meets. Set in Tel Aviv and written in the style of a mockumentary, the play is a farcical yet touching story about one man's journey to fulfil his grandfather's wishes.
Tik-sho-ret Theatre Company was established by Ariella Eshed in 2005 with an aim to:
• Give platform to Israeli and Jewish theatre in the UK.
• Encourage collaborations through cultural and artistic exchange.
• Create educational and community-based projects around themes of communication and co-existence.
In 2012, Tik-sho-ret (meaning 'communication' in Hebrew) presented a festival of New Writing from Israel in London which included an extract from 5 Kilo Sugar. The original Israeli production had a long and successful run at the Gesher Theatre in Tel Aviv, and Gur Koren recently won an award for Best Playwright for Theatre in Israel. Tik-sho-ret is proud to introduce the UK version of 5 Kilo Sugar to the Edinburgh Fringe Festival.
