The Rose Theatre has something for everyone this April. Beginning with National Theatre Connections, local youth theatre groups, schools and colleges perform a series of plays about the views of young people today. This is followed by an imaginative and spontaneous presentation of three shows by the ever popular Production Company the Factory; Hamlet, The Seagull and Round 2, promises audience participation and a theatre experience like no other. And for the little ones, The Fabulous Flutterbys will capture imaginations, with beautiful puppetry and live music.

National Theatre Connections

Monday 4 - Saturday 9 April

The Rose will play host to scores of local young performers and producers in one of 19 regional showcases for National Theatre Connections - a nationwide celebration of new writing for young people.

National Theatre Connections is produced by the National Theatre's Discover Programme and supported by Arts Council England and Bank of America Merrill Lynch. Each year new plays are commissioned for and about young people from some of the best contemporary playwrights, for performance by 200 schools and youth theatres from all over the UK and Ireland, making National Theatre Connections one of the world's largest celebrations of youth theatre.

The ten plays for the 2011 Festival have been written by: Samuel Adamson, Alia Bano, Helen Blakeman, Noel Clarke, Molly Davies, James Graham, Carl Grose, Katori Hall, Nell Leyshon and Douglas Maxwell.

Through work with young people from all over the UK, from the Shetland Isles to Plymouth, the Connections writers have created a series of plays that reflect the ideas, concerns and views of young people today.

Involved in the Rose Theatre run are; Coulsdon Croydon, Group 64, Chislehurst & Sicup, West Thames College, Townley Grammar School, Stretch Theatre Company, Burntwood School, Cardinal Wiseman RC High, Epsom & Ewell, Graveney Theatre Company, Croydon Clocktower and Coombe Boys School.

Hamlet, The Seagull, Round 2

Monday 11 - Saturday 16 April

The Factory redefine live theatre. No sets, no costumes, no props. Just imagination and spontaneity. The audience have the chance to play their part in Hamlet and bring random objects to be used as props during the performance. Everything is welcome, large or small, ordinary or bizarre.

The Seagull presents the actor's translation of Chekhov's great work, told in a different light each performance. This promises to be an exciting and unique interpretation incorporating Chekhov's rhythms, character dynamics and soulful wit in their own words.

Round 2 is a collections of short plays written by Factory writers. With over thirty new plays the audience get to choose which six plays they'd like to see each night and which actors they'd like to perform them.

Actor Ben Lambert returns to the Rose with the Factory after this outstanding performance as Irwin in Alan Bennett's The History Boys. Ben Lambert is available for press interviews.
