THE ART OF CONCEALMENT Set for Riverside Studios Today, May 1
Following its sell-out run at Jermyn Street Theatre in January, THE ART OF CONCEALMENT comes to Riverside Studios this May.
Terence Rattigan, once regarded as the golden boy of the West End stage, and who suffered a sudden and catastrophic fall from favour with the rise of the New Wave of British drama, is 66 years old, in failing health, and waiting for the curtain to rise on his last play, Cause Célèbre.
THE ART OF CONCEALMENT is not only about the demons that haunted one of our great playwrights but about the creative process itself, the loss of youth, the pain of love and the shallowness of fame. How does a playwright judge his own life? Can it be crafted, restructured, or does he have a duty to be honest, finally, about himself?
THE ART OF CONCEALMENT began its life as a special commission for the Brighton Festival Fringe 2011 and was reworked for the acclaimed Jermyn Street Theatre run. Written by Giles Cole, with the approval of Rattigan’s official biographer, it is directed by Knight Mantell and designed by Meg Witts.
It stars Brian Deacon and Ashley Cook as the older and younger Rattigan respectively, and features Oliver Hume, Judy Buxton, Graham Pountney and Ewan Goddard.
The production will run May 1st-20th. For more information, click here.
