Sphinx Theatre to Bring A BERLIN KABARET to Brighton Fringe, May 13-16

By:

Lady Gaga meets Brecht in Sphinx Theatre's A Berlin Kabaret at the Warren 13th, 14th and 16th May, a must-see at this year's Brighton Fringe. This walk on the wild side of the twentieth century avant-garde is a vibrant presentation of lyrical anti-war songs. Rediscover long lost gay rights anthems and American propaganda songs in a fun and interactive night out for audiences.

Fresh from a successful run at the SOHO Theatre Downstairs, Sphinx Theatre brings Brighton a night of live music, eclectic sound, electric atmosphere and provocation. Visual artist Paul Dart has designed stunning Brechtian mask work that beautifully complements the music.

Five star performers sing songs of resistance, love and exile asking "Whose tomorrow is tomorrow and whose earth is the earth?" Sphinx Theatre captures the political turmoil of the Weimar Republic transporting audiences back to the Cabaret clubs of 20s Berlin. Witty and rebellious, these songs still resonate powerfully.

In this show Sphinx presents songs of the political writers of the 20th century from Europe and the USA, and engages a whole new generation of audiences with lessons from the past. Featuring songs written by Irving Berlin, Friedrich Hollander Mischa Spoliansky, Bertolt Brecht and Hanns Eisler,

Sphinx Theatre has established a reputation over the years for producing striking shows and projects that include pop up events and circus. Specialising in taking on social and political themes Sphinx has been a pioneer of new writing for women.
