Shakespeare at the Tobacco Factory Presents THE CHERRY ORCHARD, 5/15
Shakespeare at the Tobacco Factory (SATTF) will present its highly acclaimed production of The Cherry Orchard, Chekhov's final work, at the Rose Theatre Kingston, for one week from, Tuesday May 15th to Saturday May 19th.
The charming but feckless Madame Ranevskaya returns home to Russia after five years in Paris with her lover to face looming bankruptcy. Can she conceive of her magnificent cherry orchard being sold to save her whole estate, or will she ignore all advice and court disaster for herself and her whole family?
With undiminished comic touch and a robustly unsentimental eye Chekhov drew this classic portrait of an aristocratic family bewildered and impotent in the face of the huge social changes sweeping Russia a century ago.
The cast includes Julia Hills as Ranevskaya, (who played Rona in the hit TV sitcom 2point4 Children and Goneril in SATTF's 2012 King Lear production); and Simon Armstrong as the brash entrepreneur Lopakhin (Kent in King Lear and as Uncle Vanya in the SATTF/Bristol Old Vic co-production).
