Semiotic Theatre Productions presents its first production 'Myths of the Marina' - an intimate retelling of three classic Greek Myths for two performances at the Stanwix Theatre, 17th of November 2017, performed, produced and designed by students of the University of Cumbria Institute of the Arts.

Myths of the Marina is collection of Greek Tales told by two orphaned children, Chloe and Daphnis who are voyaging on a journey of self-discovery. This pair of wanderers connect over their favourite stories from their childhood - when the tales suddenly come to life. We are enveloped in a world of flying men, terrifying giants and enchanting nymphs all bound by the subtle undertone of our main pair's loves, hopes and fears. With the use of British Sign Language, 'Myths of the Marina' aspires to bring together the D/deaf community and Hearing world through a mutual love of magic, storytelling and theatrical adventure.

Over a six week process, the company have had to design and produce the entire production, including creating all set, props, costumes, lighting and sound effects whilst raising enough money to produce the show.

Choreographer, Nicky Palmer comments,

"Following my experiences being on stage as a performer, I am looking forward to being on the other side of the creative process. I have always had a passion for movement and after collaborating with choreographers such as David Lloyd (Mischief Company) and Zoe Creswell, I have discovered an additional desire to choreograph. British Sign Language is an expressive form of communication and I am incredibly eager to start incorporating this through the means of dance to create a visually enticing piece. "

Director, Michael Loughran comments,

"After assistant directing this summer's tour of 'A Classical Cabaret' with Shakespeare Switched, this will be the first production I have directed solo. I have always been drawn to the concept of incorporating British Sign Language into theatre and think that making a show accessible to all is integral to moving forward in theatre. What better way to do that than go back to the theatrical roots of Greek Mythology where theatre began! Our debut production of 'Myths of the Marina' really touches on what storytelling is and the essence of childlike vigour with three enticing tales. Our company is thrilled to bring you into our world and build bridges between audiences who use BSL to aid them and those who don't".

Myths of the Marina will run for only two performances. For more information and to book tickets, please email semiotictheatreproductions@outlook.com or alternatively, if you would like to support the production, please visit www.justgiving.com/crowdfunding/semiotictheatrecompany.
