From May 2014 - March 2015, Sadler's Wells presents its biggest ever programme of inclusive dance.

Made up of disabled and non-disabled dancers, Stopgap Dance Company performs the London premiere of its latest work Artificial Things. The production sees a group of individuals who are slowly suffocating in each other's company. They seek escape through rock-n-roll, but their wild disorder descends into playground politics to reveal some uncomfortable truths. Artificial Things is choreographed by Lucy Bennett, one of the UK's leading experts in integrated choreography, and is devised and danced by a cast including David Toole.

After sell-out seasons around the world, Sadler's Wells' critically acclaimed production PUSH returns to the London Coliseum, featuring Associate Artists Sylvie Guillem who is widely regarded as "the most brilliant ballerina of her generation" (The Guardian) and Russell Maliphant, whose choreography creates a language which is elegant, articulate and resonant.
The production features four works, including Two, a dazzling solo which seems to trap Guillem in a box of light. The works are complemented by Michael Hulls' stunning lighting and accompanied by music from Andy Cowton, Carlos Montoya and Shirley Thompson. Since its debut in 2005, PUSH has received four major awards: an Olivier Award, a Time Out Award, Best Choreography (Modern) at the National Dance Awards and the South Bank Show Dance Award.

Over four days of performances, workshops and events, Sadler's Wells presents its largest scale celebration of lifelong creativity and the contribution of older artists with the Elixir Festival this Autumn.
KnowBody; A lifetime of experiences (12 & 13 September) is a mixed programme of work on the main stage featuring the legendary artists Mats Ek and Ana Laguna, Sadler's Wells renowned Company of Elders performing a restaged excerpt from Hofesh Shechter's In your rooms and a new commission performed by a group of former professional dancers, some of whom are returning to the stage after twenty years or more. From the beauty and power of a single gesture to the juxtaposition of electronic music and contemporary choreography performed by older dancers, the programme challenges preconceptions and presents contemporary dance illuminated by a lifetime of experience.
Elixir Extracts comprise workshops, film screenings, a conference and a programme of performances in the Lilian Baylis Studio, (13, 14 & 15 September). These performances feature groups of older dancers from across the UK and abroad; reflecting the diversity of approach and responding to the fast-growing interest in performance work for mature artists.

Hailing from Que?bec, renowned as the home of the modern circus discipline, The 7 Fingers (Les 7 Doigts de le Main) is one of the world's most inventive contemporary circus companies. After critical acclaim with its previous shows Traces and Psy, the company returns to the Peacock Theatre for the first time since 2010 with its latest work Sequence 8.
Directed by company artistic directors Shana Carroll and Sebastien Soldevila, the production features a cast of eight acrobats showcasing circus skills and aerial stunts. Created in 2012 to celebrate the company's ten year anniversary, Sequence 8 explores how relationships can be represented with acrobatics, focusing on how we define ourselves against others.

Mette Ingvartsen makes her London debut with her latest creation, in a new partnership with the Platform Theatre at Central St Martins. Having collaborated with French choreographers Xavier Le Roy and Boris Charmatz, she is part of a generation of dance artists that considers choreography as a tool to think about the world and our relationship to it.
The Artificial Nature Project offers an expanded form of choreography including materials and objects, and asks the question: What is the relationship between the animate and inanimate world? Throughout the performance the view is persistently changing: a calm contemplative site gives way to an energetic chaos of debris projected into space, rapidly altering our perception of a glittering landscape.

The fourth oldest ballet company in the world, Royal Swedish Ballet performs in London for the first time since 1995. To celebrate its 240th anniversary, in 2013 Royal Swedish Ballet director Johannes O?hman commissioned choreographer Mats Ek to create a full length adaptation of a timeless love story for 32 of the company's dancers. After success in its native Sweden and internationally, Ek's Juliet & Romeo makes its UK premiere this Autumn.
This new adaptation is set to a score by Tchaikovsky, adapted by Anders Ho?gstedt and features scenography and costume design by Magdalena A?berg. The Renaissance-inspired costumes are given a modern twist, while the dark, urban setting helps bring this classic love story into the 21st century.

Wild Card
Wild Card returns with more specially curated evenings from a new generation of dance makers, bringing fresh perspectives to the stage. For each Wild Card, an emerging artist or producer is given the opportunity to present work that excites them alongside their own work. This Autumn season features two Wild Card artists; Seeta Patel (26 September) and Neil Callaghan (7 November). Wild Card is part of Sadler's Wells' programme of support for young and emerging dance talent, alongside hosting the National Youth Dance Company, the New Wave Associates initiative and the Sadler's Wells Summer University programme.

UK born and raised dance artist Seeta Patel has been championing the Indian classical dance style of bharatanatyam for many years. She has done so alongside forging a career in contemporary dance, working with companies including DV8 Physical Theatre, and presenting work at Southbank Centre. Under the guidance of her teacher Mavin Khoo, she has become a growing voice for the form.
She curates an intimate evening of dance and music from South India, featuring an orchestra of Carnatic musicians. After her solo work, Patel offers a rare opportunity to see seasoned dancer and musician Pushkala Gopal. The evening is a chance to witness the evolution of this expressive dance form.

Brazil's internationally acclaimed dance company Grupo Corpo returns to Sadler's Wells for its first performances since 2011. With a history stretching back nearly 40 years, Grupo Corpo's 22 dancers combine the precision of classical ballet with the sensuality and passion of Latin dance rhythms.
The company presents two pieces choreographed by artistic director Rodrigo Pederneiras. Triz, the Brazilian term for the moment just before a catastrophe, is abstract dance performed in striking black and white costumes. A UK Premiere, Triz is a visually stunning dance experience. Parabelo is inspired by life in rural Brazil and sees the dancers fill the stage with unmatched energy and excitement.

Showing her work for the first time in London, Margre?t Sara Guðjo?nsdo?ttir brings an investigative piece that questions what it means to be engaged in the act of watching.
In Variations on Closer, the audience comes face to face with three charismatic female performers. They explore different levels of physical closeness between themselves and their observers. Audiences are offered a chance to reassess what it feels like to be observed, breaking traditional theatrical conventions. The performance is accompanied by a soundtrack from experimental electronic music pioneer, Peter Rehberg (known as PITA).

Birmingham Royal Ballet returns to Sadler's Wells with two evenings of work. Beauty and the Beast, choreographed by David Bintley features Philip Prowse's storybook set, and a score by Glenn Buhr.
Shadows of War is a triple bill and opens with Kenneth MacMillan's La Fin du Jour, capturing the glamorous lifestyle of the 1930s using Maurice Ravel's score. Miracle in the Gorbals has been specially re- created for the Company by Dame Gillian Lynne, from Robert Helpmann's original work set in 1940s Glasgow and danced to music by Sir Arthur Bliss. The programme closes with David Bintley's Flowers of the Forest; with music by Malcolm Arnold and Benjamin Britten, it contrasts picture-postcard Scotland with its own bloody history.

Sadler's Wells New Wave Associate, TAO Dance Theatre returns this Autumn as part of Dance Umbrella, following sell out shows in the Lilian Baylis Studio. The company performs the UK premiere of a new double bill which features a new work commissioned by the theatre.
Formed in 2008 by Beijing-based choreographer Tao Ye at the age of just 22, TAO Dance Theatre is known for its collaborations across art forms including film and visual art, creating dances that have a mesmeric, trance-like quality. In 6 & 7, he continues his numbered series of experimentations that explore the potential of the human body as a purely visual form, freed from the constraints of story-telling or representation.
In 6, his six dancers move in dynamic and hypnotising unison, in a shifting landscape of light created by Swedish lighting designer Ellen Ruge. His latest work 7 continues Tao Ye's fascination with pattern, precision and ritual, and is distinguished by a soundtrack of acoustic effects generated by the seven dancers' own bodies. Both 6 & 7 are accompanied by commissioned music from Chinese indie folk composer Xiao He.

As part of Dance Umbrella's mission to celebrate 21st century choreography, iconoclastic ice skaters Le Patin Libre come to London's famous Alexandra Palace. In this specially commissioned double bill they share their signature mix of movement, wit, speed and grace. Le Patin Libre (Free Skate) is a five-strong collective of prize-winning skaters who are creating a new kind of ice dancing, far beyond the confines of traditional figure skating.
Having started out performing on frozen ponds and canals in their hometown of Montreal, the company now comes to London to present a full-length evening of work. In Influences the performers play with how our body language can influence others, even with just a casual glance. In the second piece Vertical, audiences are invited to view the artists up close, with seating on the ice.

Thomas Ade?s: See the Music, Hear the Dance

Pianist, conductor, composer; Thomas Ade?s is the subject of the second in Sadler's Wells' Composer Series. A multi-award winner, he remains the only composer to have won the Royal Philharmonic Prize for large-scale composition three times. In this new Sadler's Wells production, See the Music, Hear the Dance, Ade?s conducts his only London appearance in 2014, featuring four dance works - including two world premieres - set to some of his most celebrated music and played live by one of the world's most distinguished ensembles, Britten Sinfonia.
The evening begins with Outlier, choreographed by Associate Artist Wayne McGregor to Ade?s' violin concerto Concentric Paths played by Thomas Gould. Originally created for New York City Ballet, it is re-mounted as a co-production with the Royal Ballet Flanders, making a welcome return to London. Tony-nominated Karole Armitage's work blends dance, music and art. She presents her duet Life Story, set to Ade?s' work based on words by Tennessee Williams. Performed by two dancers of her Armitage Gone! Dance Company, the piece features British soprano Claire Booth, with Ade?s on piano.
Sadler's Wells New Wave Associate Alexander Whitley presents the world premiere of The Grit in the Oyster. Whitley's intricately detailed choreography sets a trio of dancers against Ade?s' Piano Quintet, exploring ideas of obsession and transformation with Ade?s on piano. The evening culminates in a world premiere, choreographed by Sadler's Wells Associate Artist Crystal Pite in response to Ade?s' Polaris. Pite choreographs a cast including six dancers from her company Kidd Pivot and 60 dance students in the spiralling structures inspired by Ade?s' creation.

Sadler's Wells Associate Artist Akram Khan is one of the most celebrated and respected dance artists today. In just over a decade he has created an imaginative, highly accessible and relevant body of work including productions such as DESH, Vertical Road, Gnosis and zero degrees. The multi award-winning
Israel Galva?n has been at the forefront of contemporary flamenco for 20 years. Galva?n is known for his innovative choreography and exquisite dancing technique.
With this new collaboration, Khan and Galva?n have created TOROBAKA, bringing together kathak and flamenco to create something altogether distinct, defying classification or genre. Performed for the first time in the UK, TOROBAKA takes its name from a Maori-inspired phonetic poem by Tristan Tzara. The bull (toro) and the cow (vaca) are sacred animals in the dancers' two traditions and represent the coming together of dance styles.

The second programme in this season's Wild Card series is from dancer and theatre maker, Neil Callaghan. Since 2002 he has been creating performances both as a solo artist and in collaborations, including the 2010 Sadler's Wells commission Electric Hotel by David Rosenberg and Frauke Requardt. His programme includes work by Mette Ingvartsen returning to Sadler's Wells for the second time this season, Jeremy Wade, and an extract from Callaghan's latest duet with long-time collaborator Simone Kenyon. These three pieces explore how we engage with the world and each other.
In a theatre stripped of seating, this triple bill aims to draw attention to the different ways in which an audience member is an active participant in co-creating a dance. This is an invitation to take part in an evening of shared experiences and multiple transformations.

PARK is an urban oasis, a place of refuge from ordinary life where eight characters play, fight, fall in love and learn to survive. Their stories intertwine creating a modern day fairytale that is alternately sharp, funny and cruel. The production has been reworked for 2014 with new 3D imaging, presenting a breathtaking collision of highly acute physical theatre, text, athletic dance and music, delivering fresh statements about our time.

Taking inspiration from the Greek myth of Artemis and Acteaon, this powerful, physical duet revolves around a pair of lovers, who explore their relationship using pure physical expression.
...it's only a rehearsal is one of the company's best known works, having been performed across the world from New York to Paris, Sydney and Avignon for the last ten years. The show features company members Line Tørmoen and Dmitri Jourde, a collaborator with Sidi Larbi Cherkaoui's Eastman company.

Cullberg Ballet has performed across the world since its inception in 1967 by the pioneering Swedish choreographer Birgit Cullberg. As part of the Northern Light season, the company makes its Sadler's Wells debut with the UK premiere of Plateau Effect choreographed by Jefta van Dinther.
In Plateau Effect, the dancers form a community that is constantly on the move as they progress through a series of disorienting and intriguing large scale environments. The viewer's attention intersects between the dancers' movements and the materials they interact with, as the choreographer encourages audiences to embrace what they do not understand.

The UK's leading contemporary dance company made up of disabled and non-disabled dancers, Candoco Dance Company, presents two events in =dance; Curious Encounters and Close Encounters.
Curious Encounters is an interactive performance tailored to young people that gives an insight into Candoco's work. Featuring Two for C by award-winning choreographer Javier de Frutos and an extract from Thomas Hauert's Notturnino, Curious Encounters offers younger audiences the opportunity to ask questions and find out more about inclusive contemporary dance. Close Encounters presents an extract of a new work created for Candoco by Sadler's Wells New Wave Associate Hetain Patel and Two for C by Javier de Frutos. The performance event includes conversations with de Frutos and Patel.

This Autumn, Rambert returns with Triptych, a triple bill from three of British dance's most distinctive artists. The discovery of the 'God Particle' inspires The Strange Charm of Mother Nature, the new work by Rambert's Artistic Director Mark Baldwin. Subterrain is a sensuous, enigmatic voyage underground, created by former Scottish Ballet Director Ashley Page. A first work for Rambert by choreographer Shobana Jeyasingh completes the programme. First performed in 2006, Sacred Monsters is the hugely acclaimed collaboration between Sadler's Wells Associate Artists Sylvie Guillem and Akram Khan. Together, the pair explore the dynamics and language of two classical dance forms, kathak and ballet. This landmark production features additional choreography by Guari Sharma Tripathi and Lin Hwai-Min, artistic director of Cloud Gate Dance Theatre of Taiwan, with music by Philip Sheppard.
'Sacred monsters' is a term that marks the birth of contemporary stardom, in which the icons of arts and sports worlds are given divine status by their audience and the media. PEACOCK THEATRE
The stage show based upon the book by Raymond Briggs and the subsequent film has become a much- loved festive tradition at the Peacock Theatre. The production features music and lyrics by Howard Blake including Walking In the Air performed by a live orchestra with choreography by Robert North and directed by Bill Alexander.

Celebrated choreographer Arthur Pita brings his magical dance theatre show The Little Match Girl to Sadler's Wells this Christmas. Based on Hans Christian Andersen's classic story, this tale of a young street girl's hopes and dreams is beautifully told through dance, song and original live music.
A snowy stage sets the scene for an icy cold Christmas Eve, where the little match girl paces the emptying streets, trying to sell her matches. Cold, hungry and with just one final match flame to keep her warm, she sees a vision of her beloved grandmother. Leaving her troubled life behind, she is guided up into the night sky by her grandmother who takes her to the moon. Now, on a clear night, if you look closely, you might see the light of a shooting star, or is it a match burning brightly?
Award-winning choreographer Arthur Pita returns to Sadler's Wells following recent successes Mischief and The Metamorphosis, winner of Olivier, Southbank Sky Arts and Critics Circle National Dance Awards.

Young Men is a new full-length production from BalletBoyz, winners of the National Dance Awards Best Independent Dance Company 2013. In an intensely moving portrayal of love, friendship, loss and survival, Young Men explores the theme of war and the bonds that develop between the men consumed by it.
Choreographed by rising star Iva?n Pe?rez, the production is a compelling hybrid of dance, theatre and screen performance from the ever-inventive BalletBoyz and their all male dance company theTALENT.
Young Men features a newly-commissioned original score from the cult singer songwriter Keaton Henson. Performed to live music by the ten award-winning dancers of theTALENT, Young Men is a co-production with Sadler's Wells and WW1 Centenary Arts Commissions, 14-18 NOW.
