Cardiff's pub theatre The Other Room, is once again throwing open its doors to the theatre makers of tomorrow with its fourth Young Artists Festival (running 4-9 June) and this year, one of the scripts that will be performed will be written by actor, screenwriter and novelist Ruth Jones.

The Other Room are now inviting applications from young actors, directors and writers for this year's festival and successful applicants will benefit from aweek long programme of workshops, masterclasses, mentorship and professional support from key figures in the industry. Topics covered will include fundraising, diversity in the arts, working with industry unions, creating a company and professional production management.

The week will culminate in the formation of a number of new companies assembled to produce, direct and perform five brand new ten-minute plays from five British playwrights, specially commissioned by The Other Room for the festival (with public performances on Thursday 7, Friday 8 and Saturday 9 June at 7.30pm). The playwrights include Hefin Robinson, Alan Harris, Kit Lambert and Ruth Jones, who is waiving her commission fee in order to fund two places on the festival. Ruth comments:

"I'm beyond excited that my first ever play is being produced by The Other Room's Young Artists Festival. What a brilliant and inspirational forum this is - I'm a big believer in paying it forward and can't wait to see what the bright, new talent discovered by this festival will bring."

The Other Room's Producer George Soave who has put together this year's festival comments:

"The Other Room's Young Artist Festival is special because it's responsive, changing and adapting year on year to support and develop the next generation of theatre makers and dreamers. A 'Young artist' for us means new. It means emerging. They are the future of theatre, not just in Wales but in the UK, and we are thrilled to present them on our little stage!"
