THE MARLOWE Theatre has had a record-breaking first day of sales for its new season of shows.

The spring brochure went on sale yesterday (Monday), exclusively to Marlowe Friends. A total of 5,015 tickets were sold, with a value of £132,786 (the previous cash record in March was £100,012).

Sales were across the board, with shows in both the main house and The Marlowe Studio proving popular. The top sellers were: Evita, Thriller Live, Derren Brown: Infamous, Cats, West Side Story, The Play That Goes Wrong, the National Theatre's One Man Two Guvnors (main house), and Blink, presented by Soho Theatre and Nabokov (The Marlowe Studio).

Jack And The Beanstalk is already set to become The Marlowe Theatre's biggest pantomime, with record-breaking sales, and likely to attract more people than last year (84,000).

Theatre Director Mark Everett said: "In March, we had reported record sales and I am delighted for the second time in a year, we have achieved yet another milestone.

"It is so rewarding that our loyal and growing Marlowe Friends are booking for such a variety of shows, many of which are a long way off. More immediately, rehearsals for Jack And The Beanstalk start on Monday and I look forward to reporting the good news about ticket sales to the cast, which includes Samantha Womack and Phil 'Mister Maker' Gallagher."

Tickets for the new season go on sale to the general public on Monday 18 November. For details, call the Box Office on 01227 787787 or go to marlowetheatre.com.
