Third Angel Relocate to Sheffield’s Crucible Theatre This Week
Local experimental theatre company, Third Angel, is to have a new home based at Sheffield's Crucible Theatre from this week, cementing the long-term relationship between Sheffield Theatres and Third Angel.
The two companies have been collaborating on projects since 1999, including presenting its touring work on its stages and more recently working as co-producing partners. The residency will provide opportunities for the companies to explore new ways of working together, including programming consultancy, mentoring and creative learning programmes with artists and students.
Sheffield Theatres' Chief Executive Dan Bates said: 'We are thrilled to welcome Third Angel to Sheffield Theatres. This is a natural progression in our relationship and will provide many benefits to both organisations. We hope their new base here will offer Third Angel greater stability and support, whilst enabling Sheffield Theatres to develop work in areas in which they specialise.'
Alexander Kelly, Co-Artistic Director for Third Angel said: 'All of us at Third Angel are really pleased to be moving in with Sheffield Theatres. We have been working together with them for over ten years in a number of different ways, and we're excited about the new joint ventures that can arise out of this new development in our relationship.'
Third Angel was established in Sheffield in 1995 by founders and Artistic Directors Rachael Walton and Alexander Kelly. The company makes work that encompasses performance, theatre, live art, installation, film, video art, documentary, photography and design. They use styles, techniques and interests discovered in their more experimental work for other spaces, to create new theatre that plays with conventional forms while remaining accessible to a mainstream audience.
Third Angel is the second theatre company to take residency at Sheffield Theatres following Eclipse Theatre who joined in 2010.
