Little Angel Theatre has announced that their 2013 Associate Artist will be Darren East. Darren is a performer and director, working with companies including Unpacked Theatre and Touched Theatre, and also runs participatory puppetry projects through Touched and inclusive youth arts organisation Cultures Club.

Little Angel Associate Artists benefit from access to our professional development courses, opportunities to participate in our HATCH work-in-progress festival, regular mentoring and use of the theatre workshop. During his year as Associate Artist Darren will be exploring the use of marionettes for touring theatre, as well as the use of puppetry in opera. He will also be working towards a new production which will combine different puppetry forms with video. Darren will be using this opportunity to inform the development of his own personal teaching practice.

Says Darren, "I have always believed that high quality puppetry can be a vital and compelling language for contemporary performance, and one that has much to offer new audiences and participants. I'm very happy to be the Little Angel's Associate Artist for 2013 and look forward to an exciting and creative year."

This is the third Associate Artist placement that Little Angel Theatre has offered. The scheme has been running successfully over the past two years with our 2011 Associate Artist Jonathan Storey and 2012 Associate Artist Rachel Warr.
