Last Chance To See Work From Warrington Art Group Inspired By Town's Social And Natural History

There is just one week left to see the beautiful artwork created by Warrington group 10 Plus Textiles.
The exhibition, entitled Beneath the Layers, features new work inspired by Warrington's social and natural history, as well as artefacts from around the world already on display in the museum - from Ancient Egypt to John Blackburne's pineapple via the Winwick pig.
10 Plus Textiles members have all developed their own individual styles by using a range of techniques, including fine hand and machine embroidery, patchwork and quilting, beading and weaving, appliqué, collage and mixed media.
This unique collection demonstrates both the aesthetics of modern contemporary design and decorative surface stitch.
Member Val Lewis said: "The exhibition showcases the [town's] rich history, including local industry, architecture and legends, through texture.
"Texture and colour represents a fusion of traditional methods, original and inventive ideas and creations.
"We hope to have produced a vibrant and contemporary exhibition in textile art."
10 Plus Textiles were formed in 1991 when the 10 original members completed their City and Guilds textile course and wanted to continue to develop and promote an appreciation of embroidery in all its forms.
Since then, by taking in new members, the group has increased to 16, and includes members of both the Quilters' and Embroiderers' Guilds, and the current president of the Quilters Guild of the British Isles.
