LIPPY - Innovative Lip-Sync Show Exploring Funny Females Comes To Wandsworth Arts Fringe & Brighton Fringe Tonight

Word Of Mouth Theatre today announces the 2018 Fringe Festival dates for Lippy, an innovative lip-sync show by theatre-maker Rachel Causer following its work-in-progress outing under title (Re)Play at TheatreN16's Maiden Speech Feminist Festival 2017.

A celebration of the female, this production is written & performed by Rachel Causer and directed by Georgie Staight. Lippy runs at Wandsworth Arts Fringe as part of the Fragility Takeover on 4, 6, 12 May; and also at Brighton Fringe as part of The Warren Programme on 5, 8, 9 May.

Rachel has been in awe of funny women her whole life, and now, a quarter of a century in and feeling daunted by the 'Beach-Body ready' and 'BIC pens for Her' culture she needs to channel these strong women more than ever. Join Rachel as she revisits defining moments from her teens and twenties in Lippy, an innovative, semi-autobiographical lip-sync show exploring gender and authenticity.

Rachel comments "I think it's very human to worry that you aren't the best version of yourself but what I try to get across in Lippy is that even our idols feel that way, it's inevitable. For me, I find strength in funny women and take comfort in their words of empowerment and shared insecurities. Lippy is a witty reflection on what we shouldn't take so seriously in life, embracing the joys of female solidarity through lip-sync."

Rachel Causer is an actor and theatre-maker. Rachel trained in theatre making at Queen Mary University of London and in acting at Mountview Academy of Theatre Arts. She was first introduced to theatre in a performance art context on a performance placement with the LGBTQ+ theatre company Duckie, before creating many works of live art at Queen Mary, the final project being Invitation (ArtsOne Theatre) - a multimedia show that used S&M culture to highlight the sadistic nature of media on female body image. Rachel's professional credits include (Re)Play (TheatreN16, Maiden Speech Feminist Festival), Kindertransport, Waiting Room (Upstairs at the Gatehouse); A Very Merry Cabaret (Hippodrome Casino) and The Clown (Impact Theatre). Alongside this, Rachel also writes for theatre where her most recent credits include Stalemate (Emerge, Bunker Theatre) and Before Things Happen (A Prologue) which she wrote and performed at Southwark Playhouse.

Georgie Staight trained at Mountview Academy of Theatre Arts, and is Joint Artistic Director at Flux Theatre. Georgie is also an associate artist at Paper Creatures Theatre. Direction includes: Into the Numbers (Finborough Theatre), Section 2 (Bunker Theatre), Thank you for your patience (Hackney Showrooms), Roosting (Park Theatre), Dubailand (Finborough Theatre) nominated for an OffWestEnd Award, White Light (Arcola Theatre as part of PlayWROUGHT), Flood (Tristan Bates Theatre), Safe (Jermyn Street Theatre), Dreamless Sleep (Arts Theatre and The Bunker) and Next of Kin (Bristol Old Vic Studio). Assistant direction includes: Our Town (Watermill Theatre), Legally Blonde: The Musical (Bernie Grant Arts Centre). She is also a playwright and has had her writing produced at Theatre503, The Bunker, Arcola Theatre, Arts Theatre and Bristol Old Vic.

Word of Mouth Theatre was set up in 2017 ahead of touring Causer's Lippy to Festivals across the South-East of England, with the intention of provoking discussion on current feminist dialogues using contemporary means including media & lip-sync. For more information click here
