COOKING GHOSTS On UK Tour From Oct 4

Following her highly acclaimed show, Everything Must Go (2009), which left not a dry eye in the house at the Edinburgh Festival Fringe, Kristin Fredricksson returns with Cooking Ghosts. This intimate show is a journey back to childhood through the darkness of a mother's suicide. Cooking Ghosts fuses visual story-telling, puppetry, archive film footage and a specially created score. The performance celebrates childhood and looks squarely at the aftermath of a mother's disappearance. 

This non-narrative show is an attempt to understand the past and a woman who felt she had no choice but to leave her family.A harrowing and hilarious piece, the show explores childhood freedom, love, memory and the rippling effects of losing a mother from a child's perspective. A tale of tenderness and laughter turns to sadness and confusion, as the children abruptly lose their innocence.

The performers physically and spiritually attempt to get back to the garden, to being a child, exploring the past through childhood games, and toys that have been loved to death. A box of objects leads the audience into the performance. Cooking Ghosts looks at whether it is possible to find joy again when the worst happens.

Kristin Fredricksson makes moving, autobiographical performance work. She began her career as a performer in Europe, returning to form Beady Eye in 2009. She has taught at the Universities of Kent, Essex (East 15), Queen Mary London, Liverpool, Northampton and the Conservatoire of Champigny (France). A trained Feldenkrais practitioner and translator of academic theatre texts (French-English), in October 2011 she began an AHRC funded PhD looking at the skeleton and other objects in performance. Her previous work includes Le Metre (2007), Everything Must Go (2009), and Senior Moments (2010). Beady Eye is a UK based company working with local and international collaborators to create innovative Contemporary Theatre and performance projects. They benefitted from a Puppet Centre Trust Residency at Farnham Maltings 2011/12 and were part of Incubate 2011 (Little Angel/Central School of Speech and Drama). Beady Eye is an associate of Theatre Royal Margate.
