The Mercury Theatre hits the road this summer, with a production of Michael Morpurgo's Farm Boy which is currently touring to 32 schools across the south east before visiting the Mercury on 17 - 18 June.

The tour has been boosted by a Royal British Legion grant of £5000, which is funding free performances and workshops at 4 local schools: St Michael's School Colchester, Montgomery Junior School, Hamilton School and Iceni School.

This beautifully moving story told between just two characters (three, if you include the tractor which splutters to life in the closing scenes!) looks at how things change, how we grow up and grow closer and how our dreams may be nearer than we think.

Farm Boy has been adapted by Daniel Buckroyd, Artistic Director, Mercury Theatre Colchester. In 2012, the production toured to over 60 venues with New Perspectives Theatre Company and Scamp Theatre.

Daniel Buckroyd, Artistic Director of The Mercury Theatre Colchester said:

"We're working with an immensely talented team to take the show to over 3000 school children at 32 schools, and with our own Fordson tractor to boot! Thanks to funding from the Royal British Legion, we've also been able to offer a number of free performances to schools with ties to the Colchester Garrison. I hope audiences will love seeing the show as much as I've enjoyed seeing it staged once more."

Head of Social Policy & Grant Giving at the Legion, Steven Baynes, said:

"We're pleased to have awarded this external grant to The Mercury Theatre Colchester. The grant demonstrates the Legion's continued commitment to working with other organisations to provide the best support possible to our beneficiaries and within local communities. We hope the new tour will encourage school children to enjoy the arts and spark their interest in future productions and opportunities."

Farm Boy plays at The Mercury Theatre Colchester from Saturday 17 June to Sunday 18 June. Tickets are available for £16 / £12 Child. For more information, and to purchase tickets, visit www.mercurytheatre.co.uk or call 01206 573948.
