Bobby Davro to Lead NOT A GAME FOR BOYS at King's Head Theatre
Bobby Davro - actor, impressionist and one of the UK's funniest and most celebrated comedians (Bobby Davro on the Box, Bobby Davro's TV Annual, Bobby's Sketch Pad, TV Weekly, Eastenders) - leads the cast as a London cabbie and table tennis team captain 'Eric', in this 20th anniversary (and first London revival) by Lawson Joel Productions of Not a Game for Boys by writer Simon Block (nominated for Evening Standard Most Promising Playwright, the Writer's Guild New Writer of the Year, BAFTA Writer of the Year, and the Royal Television Society Writer of the Year).
First performed at the Royal Court in 1995, this gritty comedy drama features a trio of cabbies seeking solace from their daily lives competing in a local table tennis league; tonight they must win the match or face the unthinkable oblivion of relegation. Although they compete with bat and ball, the real competition between the three is much more than a game.
Co-starring Alan Drake (Fantastic Fear of Everything, Kissing Sid James, Danny's Wake, Huge) and Oliver Joel (Holby City, Huge, Danny's Wake, Sitting Pretty), the production is to be directed by Jason Lawson (resident director on Women on the Verge of a Nervous Breakdown, associate director on Backbeat and Passion Play) whose recent production Kissing Sid James played to sell out houses at 59e59 St Theatre's Brits off- Broadway season in New York and subsequently transferred to the Jermyn Street Theatre, London.
