Internationally acclaimed Actors Touring Company (ATC) today announced the appointment of Alice Malin as their new Associate Director.

Malin, who takes up post in June on an eighteen-month contract, was selected out of nearly 150 applicants. Her experience includes director credits at a range of small-scale venues and assistant directing with Terry Hands, Adrian Noble and Dominic Dromgoole at companies including Chichester Festival Theatre, Shakespeare's Globe Theatre and Clwyd Theatr Cymru.

ATC's Associate Director is a training position for an emerging director to be embedded within a non-building-based producing company. The focus is on supporting the development, making and touring of ATC's work in the UK and internationally. It provides hands-on experience of the demands of a touring theatre company, with the opportunity to input into the development of the artistic programme as well as its practical delivery. The post is designed to take the holder from Assistant Director to Associate Director; and to equip the individual for a greater range of future professional opportunities.

The post is funded partly with the generous support of Jon and NoraLee Sedmak.

Malin's role at ATC will be to support Artistic Director Ramin Gray in rehearsal and on tour. As Associate Director, Malin will work on ATC's five-star hit show The Suppliant Women at the Young Vic in November 2017 and on international tour in 2018. Malin will also revive Roland Schimmelpfennig's Winter Solstice for a Spring 2018 UK tour. She will identify and develop new international projects.

In addition to The Suppliant Women and Winter Solstice, ATC's 2017 - 2018 season includes the French, Belgian, Swiss and Luxembourg tour of French language version of The Events and the autumn 2017 UK and European tour of Mark Lockyer's Living with the Lights on.

ATC's Associate Director trainee scheme, generously supported by Jon and NoraLee Sedmak and the Boris Karloff Foundation, has been running since 2012. Previous Associates Polina Kanina and RoseMary McKenna have gone on to Shakespeare at the Tobacco Factory and the National Theatre.

ATC Artistic Director Ramin Gray: "Alice was an outstanding candidate in a highly competitive field. She has ambition, talent and skill. I'm eager to watch her thrive and contributes to the development of ATC as we move towards our fortieth year as one of Britain's leading touring companies."

ATC Executive Director Andrew Smaje: "Touring theatre is a very particular discipline - one that sits at the very heart of Britain's theatre ecology - so ATC is delighted to be able to offer this opportunity for an emerging director to experience how audiences and theatres around our nation - and beyond - respond to the theatre we make for them."

Actors Touring Company (ATC) makes international, contemporary theatre that travels. We create shows with a global perspective: activating and entertaining the audience whilst asking questions of the world around us. Placing the actor at the heart of our work, and employing a lean aesthetic which promotes environmental sustainability, the company have toured the UK and internationally since we were founded in 1978, reaching audiences far and wide.
