19th Street Announces Premiere of CATHERINE AND ANITA at the King's Head Theatre

19th Street Productions has announced the London première of Catherine and Anita after a successful debut at last year's Edinburgh Festival. Derek Ahonen's one woman show starring Sarah Roy as Catherine, opens on 9 February with previews from 7 February and running until 24 February.

All hell breaks loose when a tortured young mis?t named Catherine strikes up a friendship with the mysterious Anita. As their unlikely relationship develops, their world escalates into a violent cycle of destruction and revenge. Told over the course of decades, Catherine and Anita is a dark comedy about heartbreak, illness and ultimately how those in need so often slip through life's cracks.

Derek Ahonen is Writer/Director and an internationally acclaimed playwright, director and founder of The Amoralist Theatre Company in New York. Credits for Amoralist Theatre include The Pied Pipers of The Lower East Side and Bring Us The Head of Your Daughter (PS122), Happy in the Poorhouse (Theatre 80), The Bad and The Better (Playwrights Horizons) and The Quali?cation of Douglas Evans (Walkerspace). This is his first play to be stage in London.

Sarah Roy plays Catherine. As part of the Amoralist Theatre Company she starred in Bring Us The Head of Your Daughter (PS122), Animals and Plants (The Gershwin Hotel) and The Bad and The Better (Playwrights Horizons). Her London theatre work includes The Drunken City (Tabard Theatre); and for television, Glue. In addition, she is the founder and Artistic Director of 19th Street Productions in London.

19th Street Productions was founded in 2015 and launched with their production of The Drunken City (Tabard Theatre). Lead by Sarah Roy the company aims to produce diverse, challenging and exciting new writing; producing European and World premieres, with a focus on new American writers.

The King's Head Theatre was established in 1970. The most ethically and socially responsible fringe theatre in the UK, The King's Head are known for their challenging work and support of young artists. Last year 87,031 audience members saw a show at the theatre: 43,857 at the 110-seater on Upper Street and 43,174 on tour. At their home in Islington the theatre had 861 performances last year of 84 different shows. The King's Head are committed to fighting prejudice through the work they stage, the artists and staff they work with and by producing work for minority audience groups. They believe in fair pay for all on the fringe and create accessible routes for early career artists to stage their work. This year they announced the theatre is on the move. In 2019, subject to a fundraising campaign, the King's Head Theatre will move into a custom-built space in the heart of Islington Square, directly behind its current home securing the future of the venue for generations to come.
