Experience the world of the Bin Chicken from the comfort of your home! Toronto Dance Theatre begins its 2020/21 Season with the film of Bin Chicken by award-winning choreographer and director Alyssa Martin. Originally set to premiere on stage last March right as the company had to suspend programming due to COVID-19, this vibrant and clever work has been turned into a film. Inspired by Martins visit to Sydney, Australia, when she became fascinated with a gaggle of striking white birds, known as bin chickens due to their voracious appetite for trash, Bin Chicken looks at the parallels between the lives of these much-maligned birds and the behaviour of the rest of us. This film will show TDTs dancers in a whole new light as they use dance and theatre to spin a surreal new reality throughout the work. The score featured in Bin Chicken includes Beethoven's celebrated Sonata No. 29 (Hammerklavier), performed by Toronto-based pianist Morgan-Paige Melbourne.Bin Chicken premieres Thursday November 12 at 7:30 p.m. EST through TDTs YouTube channel, and it will be followed by an after-party on Zoom as a fun way to celebrate the premiere and to learn more about the work and its artistic collaborators. The film will remain online for two weeks until November 26. Closed captioning will be provided. The film will be open to the public and donations are being encouraged to support Toronto Dance Theatres artistic programming. The link to the film will become available 24 hours prior to the premiere at https://tdt.org/bin-chicken-film
