World Premiere of THE SILVER ARROW Hits New Heights at The Citadel
High-flying aerial acrobatics, archery, sword fights, a brand new script from Edmonton playwright Mieko Ouchi, and an original score composed by Canadian rocker Hawksley Workman - the Citadel's last Mainstage show of the 2017/18 season features all of this, and more! The World Premiere of The Silver Arrow: The Untold Story of Robin Hood is set to take over the Maclab Theatre April 21, 2018.
Citadel Artistic Director Daryl Cloran commissioned Mieko Ouchi to write an adventure story for all ages for his first season of programming at the Citadel. Cloran, who directs The Silver Arrow, then approached Citadel regular Hawksley Workman (The God That Comes) to compose music with his unique sound for the show. Workman travelled to Edmonton several times to work directly with Ouchi and Cloran on the music for the production, resulting in a number of show-stopping songs. Annie Dugan, from Edmonton's Firefly Theatre & Circus, was brought on board to handle the aerial acrobatic aspect of The Silver Arrow, with award-winning Canadian fight director Jonathan Hawley Purvis taking care of the fight choreography.
The Silver Arrow is set in a steampunk re-imagined Sherwood Forest. Maid Bina Fitzooth (Kristi Hansen) is stuck indoors due to a disability but longs for adventure. She finds it when her brother, Robert (Giovanni Spina), is declared an outlaw by Prince John (Victor Dolhai), and his love, Maid Marian (Katelyn McCulloch), is imprisoned and doomed to marry The Sherriff of Nottingham (Jesse Gervais). Bina and her Merry Band of misfits stand up to tyranny and steal from the rich to give to the poor in this twist on the classic Robin Hood tale.
The production features the participants of the 2018 Citadel/Banff Centre Professional Theatre Program, along with aerialists from Edmonton's Firefly Theatre & Circus. With Set and Costume Design by Drew Facey, Lighting Design by Leigh Ann Vardy, and Sound Design by Owen Hutchinson.
The Silver Arrow: The Untold Story of Robin Hood runs April 21 to May 13, 2018, at the Citadel Theatre.
