Theatre Francais de Toronto to Close 46th Season with LES PRECIEUSES RIDICULES, April 23-May 10

By:

Théâtre français de Toronto closes its 46th season with one of the company's favourite French classic playwrights, Molière. In Les Précieuses ridicules (The Precious Young Ladies) Director Guy Mignault overlaps eras and blends classic XVIIIth century French with new short texts, songs and monologues, which reflect both Molière and Mignault's biting take on their contemporaries. A great one-act comedy of manners, on stage at the Berkeley Street Theatre from April 23 to May 10. Opening on Friday, April 25.

An extremely satiric comedy, Les Précieuses ridicules takes aim at the extravagant and overly delicate ladies of the French bourgeoisie. "I wanted to prove that Molière's Nouveaux Riches could be as ridiculous as our Nouveaux Riches here, today" said Guy Mignault about his direction of the production.

In Théâtre français de Toronto's production, this Molière classic often considered a crowd-pleasing masterpiece of the French repertoire is given a modern and musical setting that reverberates in today's world. Discover or rediscover Molière with the help of Boris Vian, Brassens, and other great French and Canadian poets and songwriters.

Directed by Guy Mignault. Featuring: Sébastien Bertrand, Lina Blais, Andréane Bouladier, Alexandre Côté, Robert Godin, Chanda Legroulx, Nathalie Nadon, Nico Racicot, and Christopher Webb.

Costumes: Nina Okens, Set and props: Glen Charles Landry, Music: Claude Naubert, Lights: Simon Rossiter, Stage Manager: Gabriel Dubé, Production Manager: Dominic Manca. Surtitles: Gunta Dreifelds.

A Théâtre français de Toronto production.
