Producers Warren Kimmel and Peter Huck will present, selections from Stephen Sondheims entire repertoire over the course of three consecutive Monday evenings – September 21st, September 28th and October 5th.

Stephen Sondheim is the most respected theatre composer alive today. Recipient of the Pulitzer Prize in drama, 7 Tony Awards (including a Lifetime Achievement in Theatre Award 2008), and numerous Drama Desk and Grammy Awards, Stephen Sondheim is responsible for penning such classic musicals as Sweeney Todd, West Side Story, and Company.

The concert series took an Ovation Award when it was first produced in 2005 in Vancouver, and involved over 80 singers and performers from across Canada. Proceeds will benefit charities for the Actor’s Fund of Canada.

Kimmel, currently appearing in the Toronto production of The Sound of Music says, "The very top musical theatre performers in Toronto and from across the nation have agreed to perform. This event is unprecedented in Toronto and the industry response has been incredible. It is an enormous undertaking though, and we have our work cut out for us.”

Huck, who appeared in The Lord of the Rings in 2007, will also direct.  “With a huge ensemble, theatrical lighting and sound, and dazzling performances… you can be sure these concerts will be unforgettable.  You throw a follow spot on pieces like Sondheim’s “Broadway Baby” or “Send in the Clowns”, sung by the best voices in the country…and audiences are enthralled.  It’s Sondheim after all…it’s musical theatre repertoire at it’s finest.”

Says Kimmel…"It’s a Charity event and patrons will really be contributing to a wonderful cause, but its more than that - when I performed in this in Vancouver I knew I just had to bring it to Toronto.  I’ve never seen anything like it - it’s such an endeavor. The size of the ensemble, the level of performance and the depth of material - It really captured my imagination. I know I am biased here but this is something that Torontonians will not want to miss. It’s a real event and a Toronto first!

So far the confirmed performers include – Elicia MacKenzie (Dora Award winner for her role as Canada’s Maria in The Sound of Music), Jeff Madden (Dora Award winner for his role as Franki Valli in Jersey Boys); Adam Brazier, Thom Allison, Sharron Mathews, Charlotte Moore, Liam Tobin (recent star of CBC’c Triple Sensation) as well as both finalists from the CBC’s “How Do You Solve A Problem Like Maria” – Janna Polzin and Jayme Armstrong, and the list keeps growing.

Sondheim in September will be presented at Metropolitan Community Church, 115 Simpson Avenue, Toronto on Monday September 21, Monday September 28 and Monday October 5. Tickets for each program are $25 or buy all 3 for $60. Available online at www.sondheiminseptember.com or by calling Ticketline: (647) 367-8477.
