Marquee Theatrical Productions' The Sound of Music has opened at the Richmond Hill Center for the performing arts. This sensational production, featuring the hit songs "Sound of Music", "I Have Confidence", "My Favourite Things", Climb Ev'ry Mountain", and more is sure to please those already familiar with the story of Maria von Trapp, and those who will be experiencing it for the first time.

When a postulant, Maria, proves too high-spirited for the religious life, she is sent to work as governess for the seven children of a widowed naval Captain. Her growing rapport with the youngsters, coupled with her generosity of spirit, gradually captures the heart of the stern Captain, and they marry. When the Nazis invade Austria, and order the Captain to naval service, the newlyweds are forced to make a very difficult decision, to stay in Austria, or to flee to Switzerland.

The Sound of Music features music by Richard Rodgers, Lyrics by Oscar Hammerstein II, and a book by Howard Lindsay and Russel Crouse.

The production stars Katie McClure as Maria, Richard Wajs as Captain von Trapp, and Kevin Fleetwood and Jenn Briggs-Fitz Gerald as Max and Baroness Schraeder respectively. The production also features Brenda Braendel as the Mother Abbess.

The Von Trapp Children are played by Brayden Vale, Clare Carter, Eli Kaczor, Emma Scheps, Laura Schachtler, Liam Corless, and Victoria Laughlin.

Marquee Theatrical Productions is a Not-For-Profit community theatre, and will soon be celebrating it's 10th anniversary season serving the community. At each performance, a 50/50 cash draw is held, benefiting wonderful causes. For The Sound of Music, Marquee will be donating the cash draw to Sarah's Drive for Hope.

The Sound of Music will be playing at the Richmond Hill Center for the Performing Arts through April 7, before transferring to the Newmarket Theatre from April 11 through April 21.
