Hart House Theatre Presents THE IMPORTANCE OF BEING EARNEST, Now thru Oct 4

By:

Opening the season tonight, September 19, Hart House Theatre is proud to present a classic farce by a beloved and notorious playwright that has won the laughter and hearts of audiences for over a hundred years.

A farcical satire written by one of the world's most prolific writers, The Importance of Being Earnest has stood the test of time and remains an audience favourite. This story of two Victorian aristocrats trying to escape their social burdens contains all of Oscar Wilde's characteristic wit, Victorian charm and biting social commentary without ever becoming too serious. In Wilde's own words, "It is exquisitely trivial...we should treat all the trivial things of life seriously, and all the serious and studied things of life with sincere and studied triviality."

The Importance of Being Earnest by Oscar Wilde will be directed by Cory Doran with set design by Brandon Kleiman, costume design by Ming Wong and lighting design by Mikael Kangas.

The production runs Sept. 19-Oct. 4, 2014: Week One: Fri. & Sat., 8 pm; Week Two: Wed. to Sat., 8 pm; Week Three: Wed. to Sat., 8 pm & Sat., 2 pm. Postshow Talkbacks: Sat., Sept. 20 and Thurs., Sept. 25, 2014. Preshow Artist Chat: Sat., Oct. 4 at 1 pm.

Single Ticket Prices: Adults: $28; Seniors: $17; Students: $15; $10 student tickets every Wednesday night; $17 alumni tickets every Thursday night. At the UofTtix Box Office - 416.978.8849 or www.uofttix.ca.
