Goethe-Institut To Screen The Canadian Premiere Of Acclaimed German TV Series BAD BANKS, Starring Paula Beer At TIFF The Goethe-Institut Toronto proudly presents the exclusive Canadian premiere of the entire first season of BAD BANKS starring Paula Beer (Transit; Frantz; Never Look Away). The German-Luxemburgish co-production set at the heart of Europe's financial capitals premiered at the 68th Berlinale 2018 and went on to win the Audience Award at the Kino Festival New York. Beer, who was a jury member for the 1st Cannes International Series Festival, won Best Actress at the Bavarian Television Awards for her role as Jana.

BAD BANKS is high-end TV at its best: It has screened in nearly 40 countries and just been renewed for a second season; director Christian Schwochow has been invited to realize two episodes of the celebrated Netflix series The Crown as the first non-British director to do so. BAD BANKS will screen at TIFF Bell Lightbox, October 4, October 9, and October 11, 2018.

Over six episodes, BAD BANKS takes a fascinating look behind the scenes of the world of high finance. It is an adrenaline-driven game of power and manipulation, of economic interests and political common sense, of personal ambitions and shifting loyalties. Ambitious investment banker Jana is confronted with the unscrupulous machinations of this world, and her working life is determined by egotism, the pressure to succeed, and systemic machismo. She soon has to decide how far she is prepared to go for her career.

BAD BANKS is directed by Christian Schwochow (Paula; West), starring Paula Beer, Barry Atsma, Désirée Nosbusch, Tobias Moretti, Jörg Schüttauf, Jördis Triebel, and others.

BAD BANKS LINEUP:

October 4, 6:30pm: Fired & Follow the Junk (100 min)

October 9, 6:30pm: The Man from London & Old Debts (104 min)

A protracted flu and 24/7 work take a toll on Jana. There are growing signs that Jana's former employer and Deutsche Global Invest want to merge. What is going on behind closed doors? And what does Leblanc really want?

October 11, 6:30pm: The Hardest Currency & The Lion's Den (104 min)

Jana does everything necessary in order to make the mega project "Leipzig 2025" a reality, against all odds. But the pressure increases.
