Factory Theatre to Present Daniel MacIvor's BINGO!, 5/3-6/1

By:

Factory Theatre will present the Toronto premiere of BINGO! by preeminent Canadian playwright and Governor General Award-winner Daniel MacIvor.

Developed in Toronto at Factory Theatre, BINGO! received its world premiere in the playwright's home province and has since toured across Canada.

"Nova Scotian playwright Daniel MacIvor's comedy Bingo! hit the jackpot at Winnipeg's Prairie Theatre Exchange on opening night." Globe and Mail

The Toronto premiere of BINGO! is directed by Factory Theatre's Co-Artistic Director Nigel Shawn Williams and features a formidable Canadian cast, including original production member John Beale, as well as Sarah Dodd, David Keeley, Dov Mickelson and Jane Spidell.

Fuelled by booze and unsure of what life holds past the wrong end of 40, five friends reunite in Cape Breton for their 30th high school reunion. In between drinking games, these old friends try to rekindle their dying relationships and repair the bonds whittled away by time, distance and jealousy. A deeply moving comedy, BINGO! is about mid-life yearning, regret, and learning to let go.

Directed by Nigel Shawn Williams (Dora Award winning productions The Monument, and Brothel #9), BINGO! stars John Beale (The Best Brothers/Stratford Festival, Bingo/Neptune Theatre), Sarah Dodd (The Penelopiad/Nightwood Theatre, The Importance of Being Earnest/Stratford Festival), David Keeley (Hamlet/Stratford Festival, True Love Lies/Factory Theatre), Dov Mickelson (Right Road to Pontypool/4th Line Theatre, Amadeus/Canadian Stage), and Jane Spidell (9 seasons at Stratford Festival, Macbeth/National Arts Centre).

Daniel MacIvor was born and raised in Cape Breton. He is the author of numerous award-winning plays including See Bob Run, Wild Abandon, 2-2-Tango, This Is A Play, The Soldier Dreams, You Are Here, How It Works, A Beautiful View, Communion and His Greatness. His works have been translated into French, Portuguese, Spanish, Czech, German and Japanese, and have been produced around the world. Daniel won a GLAAD Award and a Village Voice Obie Award in 2002 for In On It, which was presented at PS 122 in New York, and in 2005 Marion Bridge received its Off-Broadway premiere. In 2006, Daniel received the Governor General's Literary Award for Drama for his collection of plays I Still Love You; in 2007, His Greatness won the Jessie Richardson Award for Best New Play in Vancouver and was named NOW Toronto's number one production in 2011. In 2008, Daniel was awarded the prestigious Siminovitch prize in Theatre.
