Jeunesses Musicales Ontario is pleased to present two of its star alumni: world-renowned violinist James Ehnes and award-winning pianist, Jamie Parker, in an intimate one-hour recital hosted by the popular broadcaster, and arts journalist Eric Friesen. While they have performed chamber music together before, this is their first appearance as a duo. The repertoire for this programme features Beethoven's Romance in G, Op. 40; Bach's Partita No. 3 for solo violin; and Schumann's Sonata in A Op. 105. This benefit supports Jeunesses Musicales Ontario, which is currently celebrating its 30th anniversary. The event includes a cocktail reception in Glenn Gould Studio's foyer at 7 PM, with the concert to follow. Tickets are $75. There are a limited number of Patron tickets available at $225 each, which include an exclusive post-event reception with the artists, and a $150 tax receipt. These tickets can be purchased online at www.jmontario.ca.

As young artists gain valuable experience and exposure, students, families and the general public enjoy high-quality, affordable, accessible musical entertainment. JMO is part of the Jeunesses Musicales International movement, and affiliated with Jeunesses Musicales Canada - one of the country's largest presenters, celebrating 60 years of history and music. Notable past alumni include Russell Braun, Measha Brueggergosman, Maureen Forrester, James Campbell, Scott St. John, and Martin Beaver, all of whom have benefited from the promotion and encouragement they received from JMO and JMC at the outset of their careers.

Hailed as "the Jascha Heifetz of our day" (Globe and Mail), violinist James Ehnes is widely considered one of the most dynamic and exciting performers in classical music. He has performed in over 30 countries on five continents, appearing regularly with many of the world's most well-known orchestras and conductors. Ehnes's extensive discography of over 20 recordings has been honoured with numerous awards including a GRAMMY, a GRAMOPHONE, and 6 JUNO Awards. His latest addition is a new recording of the repertoire that launched his recording career, Paganini's 24 Caprices (Onyx), released in October 2009, about which the Times writes "[Ehnes's] artistry suggests that in Paganini's age he would have enjoyed similar stature to the great man." James Ehnes hails from Brandon, Manitoba, and studied at the Juilliard School in New York. James Ehnes plays the "Marsick" Stradivarius of 1715 and gratefully acknowledges its extended loan from the Fulton Collection. He currently lives in Bradenton, Florida, with his wife Kate.
In the realm of Canadian pianists, Steinway Artist Jamie Parker, is among the best known. Widely regarded as accomplished, versatile, and brilliant, Mr. Parker's achievements are both lengthy and impressive. A consummate professional, Jamie is recognized as a soloist, a chamber musician, and as the pianist for Canada's foremost ensemble, the Gryphon Trio. Add to this his critically acclaimed performances with major Canadian symphonies like Toronto, Vancouver, Victoria, Quebec City, Edmonton, National Arts Centre, Symphony Nova Scotia and many in between, one is reminded of the scope of his contributions to the national classical music scene. With two JUNO awards and many other nominations from his vast discography, Jamie Parker continues to enthrall audiences in North America
and Europe, counting diplomats and dignitaries among his receptive audiences. Born and raised in Vancouver, BC, Jamie went on to receive his doctorate from the Juilliard School in New York. He currently holds the Rupert E. Edwards Chair in Piano Performance at the University of Toronto. When he isn't performing, teaching, or practicing, Jamie watches all the CSI television shows, Star Trek (all incarnations), and hockey.
