Comedian Deborah Kimmett Stars In This Part Stand-Up, Part Eulogy, Live Tour De Force
Heralded Comedian and storyteller Deborah Kimmett (The Debaters, DNTO, The Second City) brings her poignant, uplifting, and hilarious one-person show The Year Of The Suddenly to The Second City's John Candy Box Theatre for a limited two-night run, October 17 and 18.
The story chronicles the aftermath of Kimmett's life-changing 'suddenly' moment, when she was blindsided by her brother Kevin's terminal cancer diagnosis. Directed by Linda Kash (who won accolades this year alongside Ewan McGregor in season three of the Emmy-winning Fargo), The Year of The Suddenly masterfully walks the tightrope between bittersweet family drama and laugh-out-loud comedy. "This is a love story between my brother and I," Kimmett explains. In fact, it's fair to say these polar opposite siblings spent decades flat-out not understanding each other at all. "As it is with many families, we got stuck in our childhood roles for decades, she adds. "But when he got sick, we both let down our guard and I discovered the brother I never knew I had."
We have expectations of how we'll act when someone falls ill, and expectations of how a dying person should act. The Year Of The Suddenly turns these expectations on their head, and the end result is pretty darn eye opening. And plenty funny.Click below for a short clip of Deborah Kimmett in The Year Of The Suddenly
