One of the most celebrated and beloved musicals of all time, South Pacific combines the sights and sounds of mystical "Bali Ha'i" with a tale of love and lessons learned during America's involvement in World War II. Rodgers and Hammerstein's Pulitzer Prize-winning show broke box office records in the 1950s, and the cast recording sat at the top of the charts for more than a year. Never before presented at Pepperdine, South Pacific remains fresh and insightful.
Bradley Griffin, acclaimed director and member of the Pepperdine Theatre faculty, helms an all-student cast. "This is the Mt. Everest of classic musicals, and I'm loving every minute of exploration and discovery with our outstanding, fearless cast," says Griffin. "Even before the Civil Rights movement, Rodgers and Hammerstein used this musical to confront racism and bigotry in the United States, but instead of preaching and philosophizing, they communicated their ideas through music that has stayed with us for more than six decades. We couldn't be more excited to bring South Pacific to Pepperdine for the first time."
