Disney's THE LION KING Sells Out Tampa Engagement

Disney's THE LION KING continues to reign across North America with a sold-out engagement in Tampa, which concluded on Sunday, Feb. 14, at the Straz Center for the Performing Arts. The triumphant four-week return grossed more than $5.6 million at the box office and entertained nearly 75,000 patrons during 32 performances.

Yank! tells the story of Stu, a Midwestern kid who gets drafted for World War II in 1943, and becomes a reporter for Yank Magazine, the journal 'for the servicemen, by the servicemen.' Yank! has a score that pays homage to the 1940s and explores what it means to be a man, and what it is to fall in love and struggle. Intelligent and impassioned, suffused with songs in swing, big band and boogie-woogie styles, the show explores the stories that don't get told in wartime, and how WWII became a great catalyst in bringing gay men and women together.

St. Petersburg City Theatre Extends MEMPHIS

Due to popular demand, St. Petersburg City Theatre will extend the run of MEMPHIS through February 14th.The production is directed by Erica Sutherlin, with choreography by Rodney Hamilton and Music Direction by Latoya McCormick, and features a cast of 30, plus a live 7-piece band that performs onstage as part of the action.  This is a first for St. Petersburg City Theatre, which is the oldest, continually operating community theatre in the state of Florida, providing live theatre to the community since 1925.
Van Wezel Receives Grant from Eluned and Edward Russell Charitable Foundation

?The Van Wezel Education department's Very Special Arts Project is grateful to receive a $7,500 grant from Eluned and Edward Russell Charitable Foundation. The Very Special Arts Project is now in its fifth year of the Van Wezel's formal programming to better serve students with disabilities. The program will allow students with disabilities from Oak Park School to work with students from Lakeview Elementary School, this is the fourth year that the program has enabled these two schools to collaborate. The grant was awarded to the Van Wezel Foundation for the benefit of the Van Wezel's Education program.

Florida Studio Theatre will host a 60's Shindig on February 22, 2016 at 5:30pm in the Hegner Theatre Wing. Celebrating FST's ongoing campaign to support the Rosemary Artist Housing Project, this 60's shindig will also include the presentation of this year's Jon Spelman Award. Tickets are $200 per person with proceeds supporting the ongoing work of FST.

The FSU/Asolo Conservatory for Actor Training continues its 2015-16 season with Shakespeare's iconic MACBETH. An electrifyingly potent tale rife with passion, betrayal, and shadows of the supernatural, MACBETH is esteemed worldwide as a masterpiece of linguistic genius and dramatic brilliance. Since 1849 it has had nearly 50 Broadway runs and over 10 adaptations for film and television in the U.S. and around the world. It has been adapted into numerous books, has had dozens of performances on the radio, and has influenced artistic pieces by Henry Fuseli, Johann Zoffany, and others. Directed by Shakespeare expert Jonathan Epstein, MACBETH previews in the Cook Theatre at the FSU Center for Performing Arts on Tuesday, February 23 at 7:30pm with a special 'Pay What You Can Performance,' officially opens on Wednesday, February 24 at 7:30pm, and runs through Sunday, March 13.
