The Salerno Theatre's production of 'The Legendary Bobby Darin' will close on January 31.
In an era of cool, Bobby Darin was the soundtrack. Darin was one of the most popular rock and roll teen idols of the late ‘50s, being one of the premier song stylists of the 1950s.
Starring Michael Mathews and featuring video interviews with Dick Clark, Sandra Dee, Tony Orlando, Nancy Sinatra and more, THE LEGENDARY Bobby Darin tells the story of Darin's short, but remarkable life told through his extraordinary music.
His career took off in 1958 when he wrote and recorded "Splish Splash"; this song was an instant hit, selling more than a million copies. In 1959, Bobby Darin recorded "Dream Lover", a ballad that became a multi-million seller. Propelled by the success of "Mack the Knife" (1959) and "Beyond the Sea" (1960), he broke attendance records at the legendary Copacabana, surpassing Frank Sinatra. Moving into the pop mainstream and nightclub circuit, his astounding career (4 gold records) continued almost unabated through the 1960s.
THE LEGENDARY Bobby Darin is the first in Salerno's new Kings of Swing Series that has been touring the State of Florida since 2008.
