Tampa Repertory Theatre Presents BETHANY

By:

TRT2, Tampa Repertory Theatre's laboratory arm, opened Bethany, by Laura Marks, on January 23rd at the Silver Meteor Gallery in Ybor City. The show continues Friday, January 30th through Sunday, February 8th. Performance times are 8:00pm on Fridays and Saturdays and 3:00pm on Sundays. Admission is $15 at the door or online at TampaRep.org. Groups of eight or more can purchase tickets at a group rate of $12 per person. The Silver Meteor Gallery is located at 2213 E. 6th Avenue, Ybor City.

Bethany is about an optimistic young woman struggling for normalcy in the height of the recent foreclosure crisis. The story's central character, Crystal, a single mother working as a car salesman, is struggling to regain her footing and to win back her daughter, Bethany, from the foster care system. Crystal moves into a foreclosed home, finding herself an unlikely roommate in a fellow squatter and conspiracy theorist, Gary. We join Crystal as she attempts to convince Charlie, a motivational speaker, to sign on the dotted line so she can win over Toni, her social worker, and prove she can provide a stable home for her daughter, and at long last recover her lost sense of security along with the ever important American Dream.

Director Dan Granke teams up with TampaRep's TRT2 for his directorial debut in Tampa. Granke brings his talents to Tampa after a rich career directing and fight directing in New York City and Richmond Virginia. Granke is an associate member of the Stage Directors and Choreographers Society and is a certified teacher with the Society of American Fight Directors. Granke also teaches acting and movement at the University of South Florida.

Bringing this play to life are Nicole Jeannine Smith (4.48 Psychosis, The Divine Sister) as Crystal, Caroline Jett (History of the Devil) as Patricia, Emily Belvo (The Last Night of Ballyhoo, Unnecessary Farce) as Shannon, Greg Thompson (Bones, Inventing Van Gogh) as Charlie, Maxx Janeda (Unnecessary Farce) as Gary, and Isabel Natera (How the Garcia Girls Lost Their Accents) as Toni.

TRT2 is focused on creating opportunities for local artists and dedicated to working on challenging, controversial, and thought-provoking pieces. More information on TampaRep and TRT2 can be found on our website www.TampaRep.org..
