American Stage Presents JOHNNY SCHICCHI, Closes 5/8

American Stage Theatre Company presents Puccini's hilarious one act opera, JOHNNY SCHICCHI, co-produced with St. Petersburg Opera. The production will close on May 8.
A wealthy old man dies and his relatives gather for the reading of the will only to discover he has left everything to the church. Aghast, the family members scheme to restore some of the lost wealth to their own pockets. But what can be done? Enter the one man clever and cunning enough to help the greedy relatives regain their inheritance...the ever-resourceful Johnny Schicchi! Puccini's sparkling music is the ideal counterpoint for the hilarious events as everyone jockeys for a share of the estate. Sung in English.The same team that brought you COSI FAN TUTTE and the upcoming MADAMA BUTTERFLY, will conspire to make sure you get your due share of laughs from the will. American Stage's Todd Olson will direct and St. Petersburg Opera's Mark Sforzini will lead the cast and small orchestra in his own transcription of the musical score.For every performance, a walk on role will be auctioned off online to help raise money for the American Stage's education department. "There is the wonderful non-speaking role of the rich relative that is a lot of fun and will give our patrons the rare opportunity to be a star for the night."
