The Sydney Symphony Orchestra Adds Fourth Show as Academy Award-winning Composer Justin Hurwitz Conducts LA LA LAND IN CONCERT

Winner of the 2017 Academy Award® for Best Original Score for La La Land and Best Original Song for City of Stars, composer Justin Hurwitz will conduct the Sydney Symphony Orchestra's Australian premiere of LA LA LAND IN CONCERT as they perform the score live-to-film at the Sydney Opera House this December.

In response to high demand, the SSO has also added a fourth show to the program, with tickets for the additional Saturday 9 December 2pm performance available from Friday 1 September via the SSO website and box office.

Speaking to Forbes in April earlier this year about the film's score, Hurwitz said that the film resonated with audiences because they love Mia and Sebastian, and care about their love story, and connect with the dreams they are chasing.

"The bittersweet music was designed to work with the ups and downs of their love story and careers," said Hurwitz.

Hurwitz revealed that he made 1,900 piano demos while developing the instantly recognisable melodies for the film's soundtrack, aiming to create a tune people would hum as they walked out of theatres.

Released by Liongate's Summit Entertainment label, LA LA LAND has grossed over USD $400 million at the global box office and is the winner of six Academy Awards® , including Best Actress Emma Stone, who stars alongside Best Actor nominee, Ryan Gosling. LA LA LAND tells the story of Mia (Stone), an aspiring actress, and Sebastian (Gosling), a dedicated jazz musician, who are struggling to make ends meet in a city known for crushing hopes and breaking hearts. Set in modern day Los Angeles, this original musical about everyday life explores the joy and pain of pursuing your dreams. The live-to-action Australian premiere will feature a recorded vocal performance by John Legend.

LA LA LAND IN CONCERT premiered on 26 May and 27 May at Los Angeles' iconic Holloywood Bowl.
