Secret House Will Bring SHOOTING HEDDA GABLER to the Seymour Centre
Jennifer Rani leads the cast in Nina Segal's reimagining of Ibsen, directed by Zoë Hollyoak.
Seymour and Secret House will present the Australian premiere of Shooting Hedda Gabler by Nina Segal, an examination of ambition, manipulation and coercive control, running at the Seymour from 5 – 27 June 2026.
Jennifer Rani (Museum of Modern Love, TV's Home and Away, Rosehaven) leads a cast of six as Hedda, alongside James Smithers (Albion) as Henrik and recent NIDA graduate Alpha Sylla as Ejlert. They are joined by Jane Angharad (Albion, Till the Stars Come Down) as Berta, Lib Campbell (Crossroads Live's Cluedo) as Thea, and Lindsay McDonald (short film Set Menu) as Jorgen.
Following their recent critically acclaimed, sold-out Till the Stars Come Down at KXT on Broadway and award-winning season of Albion, Secret House return to the Seymour with another bold contemporary reimagining of a celebrated classic.
Shooting Hedda Gabler has electrified audiences and critics alike, praised for its razor-sharp writing, savage wit, and fearless modern lens on Ibsen's iconic work.
When offered the lead part in a Norwegian film adaptation of Hedda Gabler, an actress seizes the opportunity to escape her past and gain some artistic credibility. But on an isolated film set in Norway, under the watchful eye of Henrik - a charismatic, obsessive, and dangerously controlling director - reality and fiction are blurred. As the atmosphere becomes increasingly volatile and claustrophobic, paranoia takes hold, power games intensify, and Henrik becomes fixated on ending the film with a bang.
A radical, darkly playful take on Ibsen's masterpiece, Shooting Hedda Gabler is written by Nina Segal and directed by acclaimed theatre-maker Zoë Hollyoak (Old Fitz' Collapsible), with video design by Susie Henderson (STC's Picture of Dorian Gray), and asks what you'll risk to get the shot.
