FESTIVAL FATALE Returns With Female-Led Theatre In October

Celebrating theatre created by women, for everyone, Women in Theatre and Screen's critically acclaimed Festival Fatale will return to the Eternity Playhouse on Saturday 27th October following a hugely successful inaugural festival in 2016.

Festival Fatale is a biennial event that sees the Eternity Playhouse filled to the rafters with some of the most ground-breaking, contemporary and vibrant female-led theatre in Sydney. This year's sublime program features a range of performances and play-readings to boldly express the talents and diversity of the women in this city.

Selected based on creative merit, diversity and gender parity, The Festival Fatale selection panel and Artistic Director, Lizzie Schbesta, have once again curated an extraordinary line-up which includes:

Monster / Woman by Sabrina D'Angelo - Medusa. Feminist superhero. The go-to figure for those seeking to demonise female authority - the original nasty woman. From award-winning theatre-maker Sabrina D'Angelo comes a surreal black comedy about one woman's wild journey in time.

Sparrow by Susie Conte - Writer and performer Susie Conte brings to life this visceral portrayal of nurse and writer Mollie Skinner through storytelling, letters, telegrams and music, set against a background of World War, personal grief and forbidden love. Sparrow is a raw look at a woman caught between lives, in her own words.

Lovely Lady Lump by Lana Schwarcz - In 2014 multi award-winning performer, writer, puppeteer, comic and theatre maker, Lana Schwarcz, was diagnosed with, and survived, breast cancer. So she went and wrote some jokes about it. This global hit sets out to gently and successfully push boundaries, skewering serious topics with a comic eye.

Jelbu Meri by Wendy Mocke and Phoebe Grainer - From Papua New Guinean performer, Wendy Mocke, and Indigenous performer, Phoebe Grainer, comes a brand new play full of storytelling between two black women. Their stories cut across timelines, weave between cultures and search for meaning in new knowledge and old wisdom.

Nana and Bertah by Monikka Eliah - A new and hilarious adventure from Assyrian-Australian writer, Monikka Eliah, that tells the tale of two Assyrian Nanas on a mission to save their favourite soap opera star from being killed off her hit television show. Under-estimated by know-nothing grandsons and big TV execs, these two gal pals won't let anything stand in their way.

Festival Fatale General Manager and Producer, Tara Clark, says that " "This year's programme is a testament to the guts, gusto and originality of our home-grown female talent. We are proud to present this line-up that celebrates feminism, storytelling and herstory in the making!"

WITS is a collective of artists passionate about gender parity on stages and screens. WITS believes feminism is at its best when it is collaborative and cooperative. WITS aims to drive the theatre industry toward gender parity and inclusion in programming.
