This story of the unhappy court jester, who tries to protect his daughter against the evils of the world and in particular against the notorious womaniser the Duke of Mantua, can be told over and over again in innovative ways.
We've always wanted to allow the audience share in the intensity of final rehearsals before a production moves to the stage. Spring 2015, we will tour the region of Västra Götaland with Verdi's Rigoletto - perfomed in a cirkus-like opera tent! In this environment you will feel skin-tingling emotions and close contact with the actors.
The title role is sung by house soloist Mats Persson, who after a number of major roles, including Macbeth, Amfortas in Parsifal and Enrico in Lucia di Lammermoor now faces the challenges of this multi-faceted figure. The Duke is portrayed by our "Italian" tenor Tomas Lind while the innocent Gilda is interpreted by rising star Sofie Asplund.
Rikard Bergqvist is a renowned director and lyricist (mainly for musicals), most recently seen on our stages writing and directing Carmencita Rockefeller - Princess of Japan. In 2009, he directed his first opera, Die Zauberflöte at The Göteborg Opera - a début that led to sold-out performances and rave reviews.
