Two queens, Elisabetta and Maria. Cousins ??rivals of the same faith and the same man's love. Maria is a Catholic, Elisabetta Protestant. To Elisabetta to retain its power and its crown must Maria away, it says all advisers. But can Elisabetta send his rival in the death? Hate, love, religion and politics are topics in Donizetti's opera after Schiller's tragedy about the bloody power struggle between the two queens - Elizabeth I of England and her cousin Mary Stuart of Scotland. The latter was regarded by England's Catholics as the nation's true and rightful queen. As the two rival queens, we hear court singers shoes Katarina Dalayman and Lena Nordin.
