Review: GREASE at Rondo

Audience favorite Grease The Musical premieres at Rondo in Gothenburg

The cult musical Grease is being staged in a new version at Rondo in Gothenburg with, among others, Anton Ewald, Gothenburg profile Anna Mannheimer and Arantxa Álvarez, acclaimed TV and radio profile.

An iconic love story, immortal hits and maximum energy. In the fall of 2026, Grease The Musical will premiere at Rondo in Gothenburg. As Danny and Sandy, we see Anton Ewald and Lovisa Bengtsson in a new interpretation of the classic musical. With them on stage are Anna Mannheimer, Boris René, Emil Henrohn and Arantxa Álvarez, together with a large ensemble and live orchestra.

– Rondo har visat sig fungera fantastiskt bra för den här typen av storslagna musikaler, och just nu spelar vi Moulin Rouge! The Musical för rekordstor publik, säger Nanette Hayes, producent på 2Entertain och fortsätter:

– Därför känns det helt rätt att låta Grease The Musical bli uppföljare. Av alla musikaler är det faktiskt Grease som vi får allra flest önskemål om – så det är extra roligt att få ge publiken vad de vill ha.

Efter nästan 50 år som globalt fenomen och närmare fem decennier efter att filmen med John Travolta och Olivia Newton-John tog världen med storm, är det dags för Sverige att återuppleva berättelsen om Sandy, Danny och ungdomarna på Rydell High.

Anton Ewald, who is currently playing Santiago in the mega-successful Moulin Rouge! The Musical at Rondo, which has attracted over 230,000 guests in Stockholm and Gothenburg, is extremely excited for the fall.

– Danny is an absolute dream role and I can't wait to start rehearsals together with the fantastic ensemble. To be able to give new life to one of the most iconic characters in musical history feels incredibly inspiring, says Anton Ewald and continues:

– It also means that I will stay in Gothenburg for a while longer. The audience here has been absolutely magical and it therefore feels extra fun that the premiere will be right here.

As Sandy, we see the musical artist and dancer Lovisa Bengtsson, who is currently on a world tour with Zara Larsson. We have previously been able to see Lovisa on the musical stage in roles such as Ninni in Moulin Rouge! The Musical and Anette in Saturday Night Fever. Lovisa has also participated in the Eurovision Song Contest and on stage together with Danny Saucedo.

The musical is produced by 2Entertain in co-production with Vicky Nöjesproduktion. The direction and Swedish dialogue are by Klas Wiljergård, who gives the classic a modern setting with sharp humor, precision and a contemporary expression - without compromising on what made Grease one of the greatest successes in musical history.

– Grease will be a party for everyone! The action stays in the 50s but with more contemporary relevance and significantly more attitude. It is an exceptional ensemble that will give 110 percent every night, says Klas Wiljergård, director of Grease The Musical.
With choreography by Jennie Widegren, musical direction by Nils-Petter Ankarblom and the music in the original language, the performance offers iconic songs such as Summer Nights, Greased Lightnin’, Hopelessly Devoted to You and You’re the One That I Want – hits that have etched themselves firmly in the hearts of generation after generation.

– Grease The Musical at Rondo will be a truly premium experience. We have put together a really strong cast and I am very pleased with the sharp creative team that will realize this production, says Nanette Hayes.

Grease The Musical will be played at Rondo in Gothenburg in the fall of 2026 with a premiere on September 25.

Tickets will be released on March 17 via Showtic.se. A total of 44 performances will be released until November 29th.
