Since the founding of Midland College’s Allison Fine Arts Building in 1978, our music program has offered a full range of courses and performing opportunities. The Department of Music welcomes students from any field of study to participate in one or more of our music ensembles, history, appreciation, instrumental, theory and/or vocal music courses.
Whether you are considering Music as a career, coming to the study of music for the first time or are just looking for opportunities to play music, we have professional, caring and dedicated music faculty members ready to help you realize your musical ambitions.
Among the advantages of attending MC is the opportunity to receive weekly music lessons on an instrument or voice from a member of our outstanding music faculty. Currently, we offer private one-on-one instruction in voice, guitar, piano, brass, woodwinds, strings and percussion. Whether an accomplished performer or beginner musician, any student can enroll in a music lesson.

During the pandemic, musical theatre lovers were hit with withdrawal. Apple TV took us out of our funk when Schmigadoon hit the air in July of 2021. The series took an original story line and based it around a specific genre of musical theatre. The result had us laughing and singing along for two seasons. The first season was more of the Rodgers and Hammerstein classic variety of musical while season two had more of a Chicago/Pippin vibe. For whatever reason, the third season was written but Apple TV elected not to go into production with it.

As we all know, the 23/24 Broadway theatre season has been one of the busiest in a very long time with many new plays and musicals opening within a short period. One of those shows was The Notebook. It features a score by pop writer Ingrid Michaelson and a book by Bekah Brunsetter. The show had a pre-Broadway tryout in Chicago where it was met with unanimous rave reviews.
