High School World Premiere of Broadway Musical Wonderland Excitement has been running through the hearts of the Enloe High School Arts department since September 11, 2019 when award winning director KoKo Thornton officially announced that Enloe would be the first high school ever to perform Wonderland by Jack Murphy, Gregory Boyd, and Frank Wildhorn. The high energy and magical show will have its high school premiere from March 18th through 21st at 7pm in the Enloe High School Auditorium.Thornton, having fallen in love with the musical back in 2011 when she first bought the CD and heard the wide variety of amazing music, knew that Wonderland would be the perfect show for the school this year back in the summer of 2019 but couldnt seem to find the rights anywhere. But, luckily, a student of hers was also the vocal student of Lauren Kennedy, who played Alice in the original workshop of the production. After Kennedy reached out to Wildhorn and his representatives describing Enloe as a killer high school in Raleigh that wants to do your show and a few months of coordinating between Kennedy, Thornton, and Wildhorn Productions, Enloe was officially given the go ahead to perform the show. The show follows Alice from the original Alice in Wonderland books all grown up, struggling as a writer, struggling as a wife who is getting divorced from her husband, and struggling as a mother to her daughter, Chloe. As Chloe runs off into the rabbit hole an early scene, Alice follows her and heads into Wonderland herself. She is taken on a journey of self discovery as she encounters crazy characters such as The Cat, Caterpillar, the valiant White Knight, the Queen of Hearts, and of course the power hungry Mad Hatter. On her quest to find Chloe, Alice is tasked to also find herself and what is truly important to her. The front cover of the script describes the show perfectly when it says Inspired by, and Unfaithful to, the books by Lewis Carroll. In addition to the rights to perform the show, the company was given permission from the writers to edit and adapt the show in certain places to best fit their needs as an ensemble. This includes the addition of a song originally debuted in the U.K. tour of the production as well as the liberty to write a scene for that song to be in. This will truly not only be the high school world premiere of this show but will also be the world premiere of this specific version with the adaptations. The cast and crew are excited for the show for many reasons. Thornton is excited to bring to life the many different types of music in each scene and create the vibe of jazz clubs, rock concerts, and more. Im really excited for Wonderland because of the large variety of dance styles in the show. says Dance Captain Ava Roark. Liyana Falvey, who plays the Mad Hatter is excited because Hatter was one of my dream roles for the longest time and now I get to embody her and embrace her and create a new version of her.. The fact that this track of the show has never actually existed before and the fact that we are taking a mashup of all the different versions of the show[...] I think thats freaking amazing. comments Chloe Calhoun, Actors Equity candidate and leading actress who plays Alice. Malcolm Vaughn, who plays Jack/White Knight also adds Wonderland is going to be such a unique experience because its the first show that has been given to us that isnt nationally released and so we have a lot more creative liberty. Propsmaster John Monroe shares their passion when he says Im so excited to be a part of the first high school to ever perform WONDERLAND! With such an interesting story and creative vision by our director, Ms.Thornton, I am very honored to be making the props for this show along my co-head Wesley Wood! The Triangle Rising Star Best Musical award winning department has been hard at work since late December with weekly production meetings, now daily rehearsals, and tech work around the clock. The excitement and drive sensed in the air of the department hasnt been higher in years. With phenomenal music, a vibrant set, unique lighting, full stage projections, powerful belting, and a cast filled with heart, soul, and determination, Wonderland will prove to be a magical show that no one will want to miss. For updates, behind the scenes, and more, follow @wonderlandenloe on Facebook, Instagram, and Twitter.
