Witness one of opera’s most epic stories of passion, betrayal, and war. Behold the tragic romance of Aida, an Ethiopian princess enslaved by the Egyptians, and Radamès, an Egyptian general who must choose between his love for her and his allegiance to his country. As war rages between their countries, Aida and Radames must choose between loyalty and desire. Their romance is threatened by the wrath of Amneris, the Egyptian princess who also loves Radamés, and Amonasro, the Ethiopian king who is Aida's father. Audiences will be captivated by Verdi's masterful score, which includes the famous Triumphal March and the aria "Celeste Aida" in this spectacular concert version of one of the most popular operas of all time, featuring stunning music and unforgettable voices. Operatic powerhouse Marsha Thompson makes her return to UAO in the title role of Aida alongside Melody Wilson as Amneris. The pair were last seen together on the UAO stage in Nabucco as Abigaille and Fenena. Making his UAO debut is Missouri native Limmie Pulliam as Radamès – a role he debuted on the Metropolitan Opera stage in 2022. Also making UAO debuts are Lloyd Reshard as Amonasro and Joseph Lodato as Ramfis. Todd Payne returns as El Re d’Egitto, Danielle Yilmaz as Gran Sacerdotessa, and R. Nathan Brown as Messaggero. Over thirty local artists will make up the mighty chorus with a larger-than-life sound that will fill Union Avenue Opera like never before under the baton of Founding Artistic Director Scott Schoonover and accompanied by the UAO Orchestra (all members of the AFM-Local 2).
