Be different in a traditional world
The return of an Indian from America to his hometown forever change the lives of locals. With it, comes in Jaumet, a black boy who is adopted by the population, partly as a sign of their supposed tolerance, partly as a fairground attraction. While a child Jaumet harmless, people filled mouth words like brotherhood, progress and freedom, but when you get older and you Jaumet concerns and feelings emerge own age, what was once a fun begins be seen as a threat.
Freedom, while not the best known text Rusiñol is one of his most highly valued. It has the merit of immense ahead of his time and proposed a liberal spirit, a debate that prevails today: racism and utter hypocrisy, when the truth is still hiding under foundations of our mentality.
