Check Out DIMF Korean New Musicals On Broadway On Demand
The 17th Daegu International Musical Festival will return with various productions and intriguing programs from May 19 to June 5, 2023, online and offline.
Daegu International Musical Festival(DIMF), a global musical theatre festival, will hold 'DIMF WEEK' to showcase DIMF new musicals to the world in partnership with Broadway On Demand(BOD), a virtual performing arts complex offering a variety of programming including Broadway shows.
DIMF, which has led the Korean musical market for the past 17 years since Pre. DIMF in 2006, is an organization that introduces musicals from around the world, supports the development of Korean new musicals, and takes the lead in the development of the musical theatre industry and popularization of musicals.
DIMF intends to enhance the status of Korean musicals by introducing new musicals supported by DIMF to overseas markets through collaboration with the global OTT streaming platform BOD and supporting global advancement. DIMF and BOD have successfully collaborated twice, starting with the screening of 'DIMF on-TACT', the 14th DIMF Opening Concert in January 2021, and holding 'DIMF WEEK' for two weeks from October 7 to 20, 2021.
'DIMF WEEK', which will be held for two weeks from October 14 (Friday) to 27 (Thursday) at EST, will present 12 full productions of the 16th DIMF Korean new musicals & reading performances in order to showcase and introduce the charm of K-Musical to countries around the world.
2022 'DIMF WEEK' consists of 5 DIMF New Musicals at the 16th DIMF, which was successfully held last summer, and the full-screen screening of 7 reading performances that were first attempted this year to revitalize the local musical industry. A total of 12 works is ready to catch the attention of musical fans around the world, including the United States.
The winner of the 16th DIMF New Musical, 'MARY ANNING', which beautifully depicts the narrative of a female scientist who contributed to the development of geological science and paleontology, but was not recognized. 'MUSICAL ', a storytelling show based on the letters and autobiography of Brahms, Schumann, and Clara, and 'Draw Spring' showing the fateful love of a man and woman who continue their love in the present time through painting will touch your heart. 'Sahndle : War dog' tells about the friendship between military dog soldier 'Sergeant Kim' and the military dog 'Sahndle' with humanism. The show stands out for the experimental challenge of stage art with a puppet. Let's find out the story between Tolkien, the writer of and of Lewis, two representative fantasy novelists who had created the invisible world, through a musical, 'INVISIBLE'.
'The Tempest', the winner of2022 Musical Incubating Program is a comedy adaptation of classic literature, reborn as a comedic charm. 'Sound Musical Mowgli' is all about family and friendship with animals in the jungle, featuring various animal characters that harmonize well with the music. The anti-war drama musical 'Banksy' deals with the sorrows of young artists and the problems of the contemporary art market, borrowing the anecdote of the real artist Banksy. A modern version of Pansori Sugungga and Beejubujeon, 'A Few Good Fish' tells you a story in the form of a two-person pansori drama that satirizes politics by grafting elements and uses comedic elements. 'Omelet rice' is not a story about the frustration and pain of first love, but a story of a beautiful and splendid time that everyone misses. 'Musical Ripley', a work that deals with the fateful encounter between a person who has everything but cannot find the meaning of life and a person who gives up on their dreams because of poverty, and the historical faction musical 'Train to Hanseong' are ready to meet the global musical fans.
