Centre Stage Presents OUR LEADING LADY 4/15-5/1
The Civil War has ended, but conflict rages backstage at Ford's Theatre on the night of Lincoln's assassination. Playwright Charles Busch mixes fact with outlandish fiction in this unlikely comedy (yes, comedy!) set against the backdrop of one of the most dramatic events in our nation's history: Our Leading Lady.
The show stars BJ Koonce as Laura Keene, the British-born stage actress whose company was performing at Ford's Theatre that fateful night. A vexing interruption to an ambitious woman's quest for fame and glory ... a head-on collision of Civil War and Noises Off ... a powerful, surprising and hilarious tour de force.
Director Benjamin P. Robinson's cast also includes Greenville favorites J. Michael Craig, Kelly Wallace and Richard Beveridge, together with Cheryl Taylor as Madame Wu-Chan; Tryon, NC actor Lavin Cuddihee as Harry Hawk; Justin Walker (Coal Creek); Katy Beth Cassell (The Dining Room) and Annette Garver.
PERFORMANCES THURSDAY-SUNDAY ONLY. Tickets for Our Leading Lady are $25 for adults. Discounts available for seniors, students and groups. The box office can be reached at 864.233.6733, 2-6 p.m. Tuesday-Friday, and 2 hours before performances. The theater is located at 501 River Street inside the Citi Smith-Barney building just one block off Main Street in downtown Greenville.
