COST OF LIVING Comes To Trustus Theatre This Month!

By:

The 2018 Pulitzer Prize for Drama will have its South Carolina debut at Trustus Theatre this month, and through a partnership with Able South Carolina, will feature two actors with disabilities portraying two of the main characters in the play. It's a play that anyone-with or without disability-can find themselves easily relating to. Cost of Living will open on our Side Door Theatre stage on Friday, February 22 and will run through Saturday, March 2, 2019. This limited run will have eight performances including two afternoon matinees. Tickets may be purchased at www.trustus.org or by calling the Trustus Box Office at 803-254-9732.

One of the most powerful shows of 2018 comes to the Trustus Side Door theatre. Eddie, an unemployed truck driver, reunites with his ex-wife Ani after she suffers a devastating accident. John, a brilliant and witty doctoral student, hires overworked Jess as a caregiver. As their lives intersect, Martyna Majok's play delves into the chasm between abundance and need and explores the space where bodies-with or without disability-meet each other.

This play was written by Martyna Majok and won the 2018 Pulitzer Prize for Drama. It will be directed by Trustus Theatre Emeritus Company Member Paul Kaufmann who is the current South Carolina Arts Commission Acting Fellow and whose Trustus Theatre directing credits include The Testament of Mary. The play stars Bauer Westeren (John), Ellen Rodillo (Jess), Eric Bultman (Eddie), and Kathy LaLima (Ani).

Cost of Living is presented in sponsorship with Able South Carolina, and features two actors with disabilities making their Trustus Theatre debut.

"We're excited to be a small piece of this play that truly reaches outside the stereotypes of people with disabilities," said Kimberly Tissot, Executive Director of Able South Carolina. "As a disability rights organization, our favorite part about Cost of Living is that Martyna Majok made it a requirement to cast actors with disabilities to play the parts of the characters with disabilities to bring a level of authenticity."

Able South Carolina is also providing a unique feature to Cost of Living-each performance will have sign language interpreters for any deaf audience members.

Cost of Living will run from Friday, February 22 through to Saturday, March 2, 2019 and tickets are on sale now. Tickets can be purchased by calling the Trustus Theatre Box Office at 803-254-9732 or online at trustus.org. Opening night is Friday, February 22, at 8pm. The performances following are on Saturday, February 23, at 8pm; Sunday, February 24, at 3pm; Wednesday, February 27, at 8pm; Thursday, February 28, at 8pm; Friday, March 1, at 8pm; and Saturday, March 2, at 2pm and at 8pm.
